كشفت تقارير أمريكية تفاصيل تروى للمرة الأولى، حول عملية أمنية حاولت فيها وحدة من قوات النخبة بالبحرية الأمريكية تنفيذها على أراضي كوريا الشمالية، لكنها منيت بالفشل منذ اللحظة الأولى.
وأفاد تقرير نشرته صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» إنه في شتاء عام 2019، وخلال ذروة المفاوضات النووية الحساسة بين الولايات المتحدة وكوريا الشمالية، نفذت وحدة النخبة في البحرية الأمريكية، المعروفة بـ«سيل تيم 6»، عملية سرية للغاية تهدف إلى زرع جهاز تنصت للتجسس على الزعيم الكوري الشمالي كيم جونغ أون.
كانت العملية الأمريكية محفوفة بالمخاطر لدرجة أنها استلزمت موافقة مباشرة من الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، رغم نفيه لاحقاً علمه بها، وبدأت العملية بانطلاق غواصة نووية أمريكية ضخمة إلى المياه القريبة من السواحل الكورية الشمالية، حاملة غواصتين صغيرتين مخصصتين للتسلل.
قتل الغواصين
وبعد تدريبات مكثفة استمرت أشهراً، اقترب أفراد الوحدة من الشاطئ ليلاً، مرتدين بدلات غطس سوداء ونظارات رؤية ليلية، معتقدين أنهم بمفردهم، لكن المهمة انهارت بسرعة عندما ظهر قارب صغير يحمل مدنيين كوريين شماليين، على الأرجح غواصين يبحثون عن المحار، يحملون مصابيح يدوية.
ووفقاً للصحيفة الأمريكية اعتقد الجنود الأمريكيون أنهم اكتُشفوا، فأطلقوا النار على طاقم القارب، مما أدى إلى مقتل جميع من كانوا على متنه، وفي محاولة لإخفاء الجريمة، استخدم الجنود سكاكين لثقب رئات الضحايا لضمان غرق الجثث، ورغم هروبهم من الموقع، فشلت المهمة في تحقيق هدفها الأساسي بتثبيت جهاز التنصت، مما جعلها كارثة استخباراتية.
أثارت العملية تحقيقات عسكرية سرية خلصت إلى أن عمليات القتل كانت «مبررة» وفق قواعد الاشتباك، لكن الصحيفة أشارت إلى أن إدارة ترمب لم تخطر الكونغرس بالعملية، مما قد يشكل انتهاكاً قانونياً، كما ذكرت «نيويورك تايمز» أن عملية مماثلة نفذت في عام 2005 خلال رئاسة جورج دبليو بوش، لكن تفاصيلها لم تُكشف بعد.
وحدة «سيل تيم 6»
وتُعد العملية جزءاً من جهود الولايات المتحدة المستمرة لجمع معلومات استخباراتية عن كوريا الشمالية، وهي دولة منغلقة تمتلك ترسانة نووية وصاروخية متقدمة، في عام 2019، كانت المفاوضات بين الرئيس ترمب وكيم جونغ أون في مرحلة حرجة، إذ التقيا ثلاث مرات (سنغافورة 2018، هانوي 2019، والمنطقة منزوعة السلاح 2019) لمناقشة نزع السلاح النووي.
وتعتبر وحدة «سيل تيم 6»، التي نفذت العملية، هي واحدة من أكثر وحدات القوات الخاصة الأمريكية سرية وكفاءة، واشتهرت بعمليات بارزة مثل قتل أسامة بن لادن عام 2011، واختيار هذه الوحدة يعكس حساسية المهمة وأهميتها الاستراتيجية.
American reports have revealed details that are being told for the first time about a security operation attempted by a unit of the U.S. Navy SEALs on North Korean territory, but it failed from the very first moment.
A report published by the "New York Times" stated that in the winter of 2019, during the peak of sensitive nuclear negotiations between the United States and North Korea, the elite unit of the U.S. Navy, known as "SEAL Team 6," carried out a highly classified operation aimed at planting a listening device to spy on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The American operation was so fraught with risk that it required direct approval from President Donald Trump, despite his later denial of knowledge about it. The operation began with the launch of a massive U.S. nuclear submarine to waters near the North Korean coast, carrying two small submarines designated for infiltration.
Death of the Divers
After months of intensive training, the unit members approached the shore at night, wearing black wetsuits and night vision goggles, believing they were alone. However, the mission quickly collapsed when a small boat carrying North Korean civilians, likely divers searching for shellfish, appeared, carrying flashlights.
According to the American newspaper, the American soldiers believed they had been discovered, so they opened fire on the boat's crew, killing everyone on board. In an attempt to cover up the crime, the soldiers used knives to puncture the victims' lungs to ensure the bodies would sink. Despite their escape from the site, the mission failed to achieve its primary objective of installing the listening device, making it an intelligence disaster.
The operation prompted secret military investigations that concluded the killings were "justified" under the rules of engagement. However, the newspaper noted that the Trump administration did not inform Congress about the operation, which could constitute a legal violation. The "New York Times" also mentioned that a similar operation was carried out in 2005 during George W. Bush's presidency, but its details have not yet been revealed.
SEAL Team 6
The operation is part of the ongoing U.S. efforts to gather intelligence on North Korea, a closed-off country with an advanced nuclear and missile arsenal. In 2019, negotiations between President Trump and Kim Jong Un were at a critical stage, as they met three times (Singapore 2018, Hanoi 2019, and the demilitarized zone 2019) to discuss nuclear disarmament.
SEAL Team 6, which executed the operation, is considered one of the most secretive and efficient units of the U.S. special forces, known for high-profile operations such as the killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011. The choice of this unit reflects the sensitivity and strategic importance of the mission.
