The Sudanese government held the Rapid Support Forces fully responsible today (Sunday) for the attacks on oil facilities in South Sudan, accusing them of launching a bloody assault on key oil facilities for crude oil export.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated in a statement: "The Rapid Support Forces carried out an attack on the Heglig oil fields yesterday (Saturday), resulting in the deaths and injuries of several civilian workers." The ministry did not provide further details regarding the extent of the human losses or damages.
The ministry clarified that the Sudanese government may have to suspend operations at the field for security reasons and evacuate employees to protect their lives.
It is worth noting that the Heglig fields, managed by Sudan, are located in a border area that was previously a point of contention with South Sudan.
On another note, the Sudan Doctors Network announced today that 7 people were killed and 71 others injured due to the deliberate artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces on neighborhoods in the city of El Fasher in North Darfur, confirming that the shelling occurred last night.
The network described what happened as a "heinous crime," which adds to a long record of crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces against humanity.
The Sudan Doctors Network condemned in the strongest terms the massacre perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces, asserting that what is happening in El Fasher is a complete genocide, along with systematic shelling, siege, and starvation of the city's residents, in blatant defiance of all international laws and humanitarian norms.
The network considered that the world's silence on these crimes encourages the Rapid Support Forces to continue spilling the blood of innocents without deterrent, holding the Rapid Support Forces fully responsible for these crimes.
It called on the international community, the United Nations, and the African Union to bear the responsibility for their silence and inability to protect civilians and stop this genocide, urging immediate and urgent action to halt the shelling and siege and to open safe humanitarian corridors for medicine, food, and emergency aid.
