The newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" revealed that the Israeli army dismissed 15 air force officers, one of whom holds the rank of general, for signing a petition calling for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of Israeli prisoners.
The newspaper reported today (Friday) that some of these officers were supposed to participate in the attack on Iran, but they were not called up for reserve duty due to their signatures.
According to the newspaper, the officers filed a petition to the Israeli Supreme Court, demanding that the army change its decision and reinstate them.
It mentioned that the officers range in rank from captain to general and serve in various positions in the air force reserves, all of whom continued to serve in the reserves even after October 7, 2023.
It disclosed that the highest-ranking officer, a general serving at a flight school, has been suspended from reserve duty until further notice. It noted that 17 other reserve soldiers from the air force who signed the petition joined the appeal and were temporarily suspended from service, with some being reinstated after agreeing to a request to remove their signatures.
The petition stated that the officers were dismissed and suspended from reserve work without a hearing, without justification, and in a collective and arbitrary manner, in violation of legal provisions and administrative law.
Protests and Petitions
In recent months, the crisis of protests among Israeli military personnel has escalated, rejecting the continuation of the war and the failure to reach a prisoner exchange deal.
Last April, about a thousand reserve and retired soldiers in the Israeli air force signed a letter calling for an end to the war to free prisoners in Gaza, followed by 150 former naval officers and dozens of military personnel in the armored corps. Around 100 military doctors from the Israeli reserve forces and hundreds of reserve soldiers from the 8200 intelligence unit joined them, along with about two thousand faculty members from higher education institutions. More than 1,600 veterans from the paratroopers and infantry brigades signed a letter calling for the release of all prisoners in Gaza, even if that required stopping the war, as reported by "Yedioth Ahronoth".
It is noteworthy that officers and soldiers from the intelligence-gathering units of the military intelligence agency "Aman" joined these protests, including active-duty soldiers, reserve officers, and army retirees. Additionally, around two thousand academics from faculty members joined these protests, emphasizing the necessity of reaching a deal that leads to the release of all Israeli prisoners, even if it requires halting combat operations in Gaza.
