قبل أيام من الإفراج المفترض عنه بعد 5 سنوات من توقيفه حُكم، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، على صحفي معروف في مجال مكافحة الفساد في كردستان العراق، بالسجن أربع سنوات وخمسة أشهر إضافية لإدانته بتهمة «تهديد» ضابط في السجن. وأفاد محامون وناشطون أكراد أن مناوشات اندلعت داخل وخارج قاعة المحكمة في مدينة أربيل بين قوات الأمن وأقارب ومؤيدي الصحفي شيروان شيرواني الذي كان رئيساً لتحرير مجلة باشور الشهرية سابقاً، المعروف بتحقيقاته حول الفساد في إقليم كردستان المتمتع بحكم ذاتي.
وقال المحامي محمد عبدالله: القضاء أصدر اليوم حكماً بالسجن أربع سنوات وخمسة أشهر بحقّ موكلي بتهمة تهديد ضابط عسكري مسؤول عن السجناء، وذلك قبيل الإفراج المفترض عنه في 9 سبتمبر؛ تنفيذاً لحكم صدر بحقه قبل عامين، موضحاً أن الضابط اتهم شيرواني بتهديده هو وعائلته، خلال نقله من قاعة إلى أخرى في السجن في أربيل.
وأوضح فريق الدفاع المؤلف من 6 محامين أنهم سيستأنفون الحكم في القضية التي اعتبروها سياسية وليست قانونية، مؤكدين أن هناك تدخلات من خارج المحكمة بهدف إبقاء (شيرواني) بالسجن.
وأشار عبدالله إلى أنه شاهد خارج قاعة المحكمة أشخاصاً بلباس مدني يهاجمون ناشطين وأقارب (شيرواني) وبعض النواب بمقبض المسدس، مخلفين لديهم جروحاً صغيرة وكدمات.
وكانت السلطات في السليمانية، ثاني أكبر مدن كردستان، قد أوقفت الأسبوع الماضي زعيم حركة الجيل الجديد الكردية المعارضة، شاسوار عبدالواحد.
Days before his expected release after 5 years of detention, a well-known journalist in the field of anti-corruption in Iraqi Kurdistan was sentenced today (Tuesday) to four years and five additional months in prison for "threatening" a prison officer. Kurdish lawyers and activists reported that scuffles broke out inside and outside the courtroom in Erbil between security forces and relatives and supporters of journalist Shirwan Shirwani, who was previously the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Bashour, known for his investigations into corruption in the autonomous Kurdistan region.
Lawyer Mohammed Abdullah stated: The court issued today a sentence of four years and five months against my client for threatening a military officer responsible for prisoners, just before his expected release on September 9; in implementation of a ruling issued against him two years ago, explaining that the officer accused Shirwani of threatening him and his family while transferring him from one hall to another in the Erbil prison.
The defense team, consisting of 6 lawyers, explained that they will appeal the ruling in a case they consider political rather than legal, emphasizing that there are outside interventions aimed at keeping (Shirwani) in prison.
Abdullah noted that he saw people in civilian clothes outside the courtroom attacking activists and relatives of (Shirwani) and some deputies with the grip of a gun, leaving them with minor injuries and bruises.
Last week, authorities in Sulaymaniyah, the second-largest city in Kurdistan, detained the leader of the opposition New Generation Movement, Shaswar Abdulwahid.
