While European leaders insisted on the necessity of providing Ukraine with security guarantees to defend its sovereignty, a diplomatic source revealed that the United States proposed to the Ukrainian side security guarantees similar to those offered by NATO, but without joining it.

Western media reported from the source that after a call between U.S. President Donald Trump, his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders, the American side offered Kyiv one of the security guarantees resembling Article Five of the NATO treaty. The source suggested that this guarantee was agreed upon between Presidents Trump and Putin during the Alaska summit.

It is worth noting that Article Five of the Atlantic Treaty is considered the cornerstone, as it stipulates the principle of collective defense, meaning that an attack on any member state is considered an attack on all member states.

The U.S. president announced earlier today that he agreed with European leaders, Putin, and Zelensky that establishing a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow is better than a ceasefire between the two sides that does not hold for long.

The European Union welcomed the efforts made by the U.S. president to end the war; however, European leaders emphasized the need to provide strong guarantees to Kyiv in order to defend itself. They stated in a declaration that Ukraine should not be prevented from joining NATO or the European Union.

Russia insists on the necessity of addressing the root causes of the problem with Ukraine and rejects NATO's expansion in its vicinity, considering it a threat to its strategic security.
