في أول تصريح من نوعه تصدره الهند بعد أسوأ نزاع عسكري لها منذ عقود مع جارتها باكستان، أعلن قائد القوات الجوية الهندية اليوم (السبت)، أن بلاده أسقطت 5 طائرات مقاتلة باكستانية وطائرة عسكرية أخرى، خلال اشتباكات وقعت في مايو الماضي، وهو ما نفاه وزير الدفاع الباكستاني خواجة محمد آصف، ووصفه بالكذبة.
قال قائد سلاح الجو الهندي المارشال إيه.بي سينج، خلال فعالية أقيمت بمدينة بنجالور جنوب الهند: إن معظم الطائرات الباكستانية جرى إسقاطها بواسطة نظام صواريخ أرض-جو روسي الصنع من طراز S-400 تملكه الهند، مضيفاً: بيانات التتبع الإلكتروني تؤكد تنفيذ هذه الضربات. وشدد بالقول: «لدينا ما لا يقل عن 5 مقاتلات على الأقل تأكد إسقاطها، وطائرة واحدة كبيرة»، مبيناً أن الطائرة الكبيرة التي يمكن أن تكون طائرة استطلاع أُسقطت من مسافة 300 كيلومتر. وأشار إلى أن «هذه في الواقع أكبر عملية إسقاط أرض-جو مسجلة على الإطلاق»، ما أثار تصفيق الحشد الذي ضم ضباطاً في القوات الجوية، وبعضاً من قدامى المحاربين ومسؤولين حكوميين.
ولم يذكر سينج نوع الطائرات المقاتلة التي أُسقطت، لكنه أكد أن القصف الجوي أصاب أيضاً طائرة استطلاع أخرى وبضع مقاتلات من طراز F-16 كانت موجودة في حظائر الطائرات في قاعدتين جويتين في جنوب شرق باكستان.
وأقرت الهند بأنها فقدت عدداً غير محدد من المقاتلات الجوية خلال الاشتباكات مع باكستان، مشددة في الوقت ذاته على أن النزاع لم يقترب أبداً من حافة الحرب النووية.
بالمقابل، اتهم وزير الدفاع الباكستاني الهند في منشور على «إكس» بعدم الصدق، مشدداً بالقول: «إذا كانت الحقيقة محل شك، فليفتح كلا الجانبين مخزونات طائراتهما للتحقيق المستقل، رغم أننا نشتبه في أن ذلك سيكشف الواقع الذي تسعى الهند لإخفائه».
In the first statement of its kind issued by India after its worst military conflict in decades with its neighbor Pakistan, the Indian Air Force chief announced today (Saturday) that his country shot down 5 Pakistani fighter jets and another military aircraft during clashes that took place last May, which was denied by Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who described it as a lie.
Indian Air Force Marshal A.B. Singh said during an event held in Bangalore, southern India, that most of the Pakistani aircraft were shot down by a Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missile system owned by India, adding: "Electronic tracking data confirms the execution of these strikes." He emphasized, saying: "We have confirmed the downing of at least 5 fighter jets and one large aircraft," indicating that the large aircraft, which could be a reconnaissance plane, was shot down from a distance of 300 kilometers. He noted that "this is actually the largest recorded surface-to-air downing ever," which elicited applause from the audience that included air force officers, some veterans, and government officials.
Singh did not specify the types of fighter jets that were shot down, but he confirmed that the airstrikes also hit another reconnaissance aircraft and several F-16 fighter jets that were present in hangars at two air bases in southeastern Pakistan.
India acknowledged that it lost an unspecified number of fighter jets during the clashes with Pakistan, while emphasizing that the conflict never came close to the brink of nuclear war.
In contrast, the Pakistani Defense Minister accused India of dishonesty in a post on "X," emphasizing: "If the truth is in doubt, both sides should open their aircraft inventories for an independent investigation, although we suspect that this will reveal the reality that India is trying to hide."
