أعلنت الحكومة في غانا أمس (الأربعاء) مقتل 8 أشخاص، بينهم وزيرا الدفاع والبيئة، في حادث تحطم مروحية، بمنطقة أشانتي الجنوبية، وذلك بعد أن أبلغها الجيش الغاني بفقدان الاتصال بمروحية من طراز Z9 كانت في طريقها من العاصمة أكرا إلى أوبواسي، وهي مدينة تعدينية جنوب البلاد.
وأوضحت الحكومة أن 5 ركاب وثلاثة من أفراد الطاقم كانوا على متن الطائرة.
وأفادت الحكومة أن الطائرة المروحية أقلعت من أكرا في تمام الساعة التاسعة صباحاً بالتوقيت المحلي، متجهة إلى مدينة أوبواسي شمال غرب العاصمة، إلا أن الاتصال بالرادار انقطع بعد وقت قصير من الإقلاع.
وأمرت الحكومة الغانية بتنكيس الأعلام حداداً على أرواح الضحايا، كما علّق الرئيس ماهاما جميع أنشطته الرسمية أمس.
وذكرت وسائل إعلام غانية أن من بين القتلى وزير الدفاع إدوارد أوماني بواماه، ووزير البيئة إبراهيم مرتضى محمد، ومنسق الأمن الوطني وزير الزراعة السابق الحاج محمد منير ليمونا، ونائب رئيس حزب المؤتمر الوطني الديمقراطي صامويل سارفونغ (حزب الرئيس ماهاما).
وأعرب رئيس ديوان الرئاسة جوليوس ديبراه عن تعازي الحكومة لأسر الضحايا قائلاً: الرئيس والحكومة يتقدمان بأحر التعازي والتضامن مع أسر رفاقنا والجنود الذين سقطوا أثناء تأدية واجبهم الوطني، مؤكداً وقوع الحادثة التي وصفها بـ«المأساوية».
وقالت الرئاسة إن جميع الإجراءات اللازمة ستُتخذ للتحقيق في أسباب الحادثة وضمان عدم تكرار مثل هذه المآسي مستقبلاً.
وذكرت وزارة الدفاع الغانية أنها باشرت تحقيقاً لتحديد الملابسات الدقيقة للحادثة، موضحة أن قوات الأمن والدفاع المدني في موقع الحادثة لجمع المعلومات.
The government of Ghana announced yesterday (Wednesday) the death of 8 people, including the Ministers of Defense and Environment, in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti region, after being informed by the Ghanaian army of the loss of contact with a Z9 helicopter that was en route from the capital, Accra, to Obuasi, a mining city in the south of the country.
The government clarified that there were 5 passengers and three crew members on board the aircraft.
The government reported that the helicopter took off from Accra at 9:00 AM local time, heading to the city of Obuasi northwest of the capital, but radar contact was lost shortly after takeoff.
The Ghanaian government ordered flags to be flown at half-mast in mourning for the victims, and President Mahama suspended all his official activities yesterday.
Ghanaian media reported that among the deceased were Defense Minister Edward Omani Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, National Security Coordinator and former Agriculture Minister Haj Mohammed Muniru Limuna, and Deputy Leader of the National Democratic Congress Samuel Sarpong (the party of President Mahama).
Presidential Chief of Staff Julius Debrah expressed the government's condolences to the families of the victims, stating: "The President and the government extend their heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the families of our fallen comrades and soldiers who lost their lives while performing their national duty," emphasizing that the incident was "tragic."
The presidency stated that all necessary measures will be taken to investigate the causes of the incident and ensure that such tragedies do not occur in the future.
The Ghanaian Ministry of Defense reported that it has begun an investigation to determine the precise circumstances of the incident, noting that security and civil defense forces are on site to gather information.
