The head of the Syrian Justice Commission, Abdul Basit Abdul Latif, revealed that there are communications with Interpol and relevant international bodies to pursue the perpetrators from the Assad family, led by Bashar Assad, his brother Maher, the commander of the Fourth Division of the Republican Guard, and several members of the Assad family, as well as others who have fled, and those proven to be involved in the torture and killing of the Syrian people.
In an interview with Al Arabiya.net today (Tuesday), he vowed to hold accountable those involved from cross-border militias, including members of the Lebanese Hezbollah, who have been proven to be involved in Syrian bloodshed.
On another note, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that armed clashes in Syria's Sweida province since last month have forced more than 190,000 people to flee their homes and complicated the delivery of aid to those in need.
The UN office announced in a statement today (Tuesday) that about 120 people have returned to their areas since then. It mentioned that the clashes led to the temporary closure of the only humanitarian route, "Busra al-Sham," leading to Sweida, but it was reopened yesterday (Monday). Meanwhile, the main highway between Damascus and Sweida has been closed since July 12.
The head of internal security in Sweida, Ahmad al-Dalati, confirmed that security forces entered the province to secure it and provide assistance, stating that there is no siege on Sweida, but rather security control.
Violent clashes renewed west of the city of Sweida on August 3, with exchanges of gunfire using rocket launchers in the Tal area between the self-defense units in Sweida province and the tribes.
Last week, the Syrian Ministry of Justice formed a committee to investigate the recent events in Sweida, after the province witnessed fighting between the Druze and armed groups from the tribes last month, resulting in hundreds of casualties and the displacement of tens of thousands of its residents.
Later, the Syrian government managed to reach a ceasefire agreement between the two sides, but this agreement has faced some violations recently, before security forces stabilized the situation and reopened the humanitarian corridor of Busra al-Sham in the countryside of Daraa, southwestern Syria, after securing the area.
