A Houthi court has issued a death sentence for the son of the former president, Ambassador Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, while the Houthi group continues its crimes against civilians in several provinces. According to the spokesperson for the National Commission for Investigation of Human Rights Violations in Yemen, Ishraq Al-Maqtari, the Houthis are tightening the noose around civilians.
Al-Maqtari wrote on her account on "X": The campaign of tightening and suffocating people and dragging them to prisons and places of enforced disappearance is expanding in Sana'a, Hodeidah, and Ibb, reaching the districts of Taiz and Mawiya and Khadir in Taiz Governorate.
She pointed out that Ibb Governorate has been subjected to arrests by the Houthis for three months in an intensive and almost daily manner, making it the province most suffocated by the Houthis.
A Houthi court in Sana'a had ruled (on Thursday) to execute the son of the former president, Ambassador Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, claiming he was convicted of treason, espionage, and corruption. The ruling also stipulated the confiscation of his property and the imposition of other supplementary penalties related to public office.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch accused the Houthi group of extracting false confessions from the crew of the Eternity Sea ship, which has been detained by them for weeks, after the group sank the vessel, asserting that the publication of those confessions constitutes a war crime.
The organization stated that the videos published by the Houthis, which show many members of the crew of the sunken ship apparently detained for weeks, constitute a violation of their personal dignity and a clear war crime. It clarified that the commercial ship Eternity Sea, which recently sank as a result of an attack by the Houthis, appeared in the videos repeating false claims that the ship was heading to Israel; it was actually returning from Somalia after delivering humanitarian aid to the United Nations World Food Program, raising concerns about the crew being forced to make false confessions.
