أكد المبعوث الأمريكي إلى سورية توم برّاك أن الحكومة السورية نفذت ما تعهدت به، ولم ترتكب أخطاء في هذا الشأن، مؤكداً أنها بذلت قصارى جهدها في أزمة السويداء، آخذاً في الاعتبار أنها حكومة ناشئة.
وشدد براك في تصريحات سابقة على أنه لا تجب محاسبة الحكومة السورية على أحداث السويداء، إلا بعد تمكينها من السيطرة على كامل حدود الدولة، مجدداً التأكيد على دور دمشق في تأمين الأقليات وحمايتها.
وقال براك خلال مؤتمر صحفي في بيرون، اليوم: إن التدخل الإسرائيلي في سورية جاء في وقت سيئ للغاية، وأكد أنه «لا بديل عن الحوار أمام السوريين»، مشدداً على ضرورة «وقف القتل غير المبرر». وأضاف أن الولايات المتحدة تتفاعل مع التطورات في السويداء بقدر لا يصدق من القلق والألم والتعاطف والمساعدة.
وكان المبعوث الأمريكي دعا أمس (الأحد)، كافة الفصائل المتحاربة إلى وضع السلاح ووقف الأعمال العدائية، محذراً من أن سورية تقف عند «مفترق طرق حاسم». وقال: يجب على جميع الفصائل المتحاربة أن تضع السلاح فوراً، وتوقف الأعمال العدائية، وتتخلى عن دوامة الثأر القبلي. وشدد المبعوث الأمريكي على أن «السلام والحوار يجب أن ينتصرا الآن».
The American envoy to Syria, Tom Barak, confirmed that the Syrian government has fulfilled its commitments and has not made mistakes in this regard, emphasizing that it has made every effort during the Sweida crisis, considering that it is a nascent government.
Barak stressed in previous statements that the Syrian government should not be held accountable for the events in Sweida until it is enabled to control the entire borders of the state, reiterating the role of Damascus in securing and protecting minorities.
During a press conference in Beirut today, Barak stated that the Israeli intervention in Syria came at a very bad time, and he affirmed that "there is no alternative to dialogue for the Syrians," emphasizing the need to "stop the unjustified killings." He added that the United States is reacting to the developments in Sweida with an incredible amount of concern, pain, empathy, and assistance.
The American envoy called yesterday (Sunday) on all warring factions to lay down their arms and cease hostilities, warning that Syria stands at a "critical crossroads." He said that all warring factions must immediately put down their weapons, stop hostilities, and abandon the cycle of tribal revenge. The American envoy emphasized that "peace and dialogue must prevail now."
