تخطط وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية للإطاحة بأكثر من 1350 دبلوماسياً وموظفاً حكومياً في إطار خطة إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب.
وكشف مسؤول بارز اليوم (الجمعة) أن الوزارة بصدد إرسال إخطارات تسريح إلى 1107 موظفين مدنيين، و246 مسؤولا في الخدمة الخارجية لديهم مهمات محلية في الولايات المتحدة.
وأشادت إدارة الرئيس ترمب بهذا التسريح باعتباره ضرورياً لجعل الإدارة أكثر كفاءة، رغم أن هذه العملية تعرضت لانتقادات شديدة من قبل الدبلوماسيين الحاليين والسابقين الذين يقولون إنها ستضعف النفوذ الأمريكي وقدرته على مواجهة التهديدات القائمة والناشئة في الخارج.
وسعت إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي إلى إعادة تشكيل الدبلوماسية الأمريكية، وعملت جاهدة على تقليص حجم الحكومة الاتحادية، بما في ذلك عمليات فصل جماعي في إطار خطوات تهدف إلى تفكيك وزارات بأكملها مثل الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية، ووزارة التعليم.
ومهد حكم أخير أصدرته المحكمة العليا الطريق أمام بدء عمليات تسريح، بينما تستمر الدعاوى القضائية التي تطعن في قانونية التقليص.
وكانت وزارة الخارجية أبلغت بشكل رسمي الموظفين أمس (الخميس) بأنها سترسل إشعارات تسريح إلى بعض منهم قريباً. وعمليات التسريح واسعة، لكنها أقل بكثير مما كان يخشاه الكثيرون.

The U.S. State Department plans to dismiss more than 1,350 diplomats and government employees as part of President Donald Trump's administration's plan.
A senior official revealed today (Friday) that the department is about to send layoff notices to 1,107 civilian employees and 246 foreign service officials who have domestic assignments in the United States.
The Trump administration has praised this layoff as necessary to make the administration more efficient, although this process has faced severe criticism from current and former diplomats who say it will weaken U.S. influence and its ability to confront existing and emerging threats abroad.
The U.S. administration has sought to reshape American diplomacy and has worked hard to reduce the size of the federal government, including mass layoffs as part of efforts aimed at dismantling entire departments such as the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Department of Education.
