The American newspaper "The New York Times" quoted Israeli officials confirming that
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decisions have prolonged the war in Gaza contrary to the military leadership's vision. The officials stated that Netanyahu's approach towards Hamas before the war contributed to its strengthening and allowed it to prepare for war. They accused the Prime Minister of undermining the judiciary before the war, which deepened divisions and weakened the army.
According to the newspaper, the officials confirmed that Netanyahu's decisions after the war were dominated by political and personal interests. They noted that the Prime Minister slowed down negotiations at critical moments under pressure from his allies, and that he continued the war in April and July 2024 despite being informed by generals of its futility. He also violated the ceasefire in March to maintain his coalition after reaching a ceasefire in January.
For its part, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights announced that at least 798 people have been killed while trying to obtain food aid in Gaza since the end of May.
A spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights told reporters today (Friday) that 615 of those killed were in the vicinity of sites belonging to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation while receiving food aid since May 27.
According to the Civil Defense Agency in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least 6 people in the northern sector today, including 5 in a school housing displaced persons. It stated in a statement that the Israeli strike targeted the Halima Al-Sadiya School, which shelters displaced persons in Jabalia Al-Nazla, north of Gaza. In an airstrike on Gaza City, the agency confirmed the death of at least one person and injuries to others.
Al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat camp received a number of injured individuals who were shot by Israeli forces while they were near a distribution point for aid.
