أُغلق مطار بيرغاجو الإيطالي مؤقتاً، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، بعد وفاة رجل على المدرج أثناء استعداد رحلة للإقلاع خصوصاً أن المطار يوفر رحلات طيران منخفضة التكلفة من مدينة ميلانو وإليها.
وقالت إدارة المطار في بيان إن عمليات الطيران توقفت من الساعة 10:20 إلى الساعة 12 بالتوقيت المحلي (08:20 إلى 10:00 بتوقيت غرينتش) بسبب مشكلة في ممر الطائرات، مضيفة أن السلطات تحقق في الواقعة.
وأكد متحدث باسم المطار وفاة الرجل، مشيراً إلى أنه لم يكن راكباً ولا موظفاً بالمطار.
وأفادت وكالة الأنباء الإيطالية (أنسا) أن الرجل لقي حتفه بعد أن ابتلعه محرك طائرة تابعة لشركة فولوتيا أثناء إقلاعها، ولم يتسن الحصول على تعليق بعد من المكتب الصحفي الإيطالي لشركة الطيران الإسبانية.
ونقلت صحيفة «كوريري ديلا سيرا» عن مسؤولين بالمطار القول إنه يبدو أن شخصاً ما ركض على المدرج أثناء إقلاع طائرة، وتم شفطه إلى داخل المحرك.
ويعتبر بيرغاجو في ميلانو المعروف سابقاً باسم مطار أوريو آل سيريو الدولي، هو ثالث أكثر المطارات الدولية ازدحاماً في إيطاليا. يُطلق على المطار رسمياً أيضاً اسم مطار إل كارافاجيو الدولي نسبةً إلى الرسام الباروكي مايكل أنجلو ميريسي دا كارافاجيو، الذي ينحدر أصلاً من بلدة كارافاجيو القريبة منه.
The Italian Bergamo Airport was temporarily closed today (Tuesday) after a man died on the runway while preparing for a flight to take off, especially since the airport provides low-cost flights to and from Milan.
The airport management stated in a statement that flight operations were halted from 10:20 to 12:00 local time (08:20 to 10:00 GMT) due to an issue with the aircraft taxiway, adding that authorities are investigating the incident.
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed the man's death, noting that he was neither a passenger nor an airport employee.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the man was killed after being sucked into the engine of a Volotea aircraft during its takeoff, and no comment has yet been obtained from the press office of the Spanish airline.
The newspaper "Corriere della Sera" quoted airport officials as saying that it appears someone ran onto the runway during the takeoff of the plane and was sucked into the engine.
Bergamo in Milan, formerly known as Orio al Serio International Airport, is the third-busiest international airport in Italy. The airport is also officially named Il Caravaggio International Airport, after the Baroque painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, who originally hails from the nearby town of Caravaggio.
