لقي ثلاثة إسرائيليين مصرعهم إثر تحطم طائرة خفيفة من طراز «بايبر PA-28» ليل السبت - الأحد، في منطقة تبعد نحو 30 كيلومتراً شرق واشنطن، بحسب ما أوردته وسائل إعلام محلية.
وذكرت التقارير أن الطيار وراكبين كانوا على متن الطائرة لقوا حتفهم في موقع الحادث، فيما لا تزال أسباب التحطم قيد التحقيق.
وبحسب المعطيات الأولية، أقلعت الطائرة من مدينة أوشن سيتي بولاية نيوجيرسي وكانت في طريقها إلى مقاطعة مونتغومري بولاية ماريلاند، وسط ترجيحات بأنها تتبع لمدرسة طيران محلية.
وعثرت فرق الإنقاذ على حطام الطائرة في منطقة حرجية قرب حي سكني، بعد تلقي بلاغات طوارئ استندت إلى تنبيهات صادرة من هواتف ذكية قبل منتصف الليل، فيما استمرت عمليات البحث حتى ساعات الفجر.
Three Israelis were killed when a light aircraft of the type "Piper PA-28" crashed late Saturday - Sunday, in an area about 30 kilometers east of Washington, according to local media reports.
Reports indicated that the pilot and two passengers on board the aircraft died at the crash site, while the causes of the crash are still under investigation.
According to initial data, the plane took off from Ocean City, New Jersey, and was headed to Montgomery County, Maryland, with indications that it belonged to a local flight school.
Rescue teams found the wreckage of the aircraft in a wooded area near a residential neighborhood, after receiving emergency calls based on alerts from smartphones before midnight, while search operations continued until dawn.
