The American space agency (NASA) is preparing to launch its new space telescope, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, in an ambitious mission that will add an advanced observatory to the fleet of giant space telescopes, alongside the Hubble and James Webb telescopes. The SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket is scheduled to carry the telescope into space, marking the beginning of a new phase in the exploration of the universe.
The launch is expected to take place from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with Sunday, August 30, 2026, set as the first opportunity for the launch, at 7:26 AM Eastern Time, which corresponds to 11:26 AM Greenwich Mean Time.
After reaching space, the telescope will head to a gravitationally stable region known as the second Lagrange point (L2), located about a million miles (1.6 million kilometers) from Earth. From its remote location, the telescope will begin its mission to observe the universe and study some of the most prominent questions related to its evolution, the structure of galaxies, and cosmic phenomena.
