The Masam project for mine clearance in Yemen has successfully removed 3,699 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices since the beginning of June until the 20th of this month. According to what was announced by the operations room of the Masam project today (Sunday), 1,243 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices were removed, including 1,182 unexploded ordnance, 57 anti-tank mines, and 4 anti-personnel mines last week.
The team indicated that the removal of 3,538 unexploded ordnance and 151 anti-tank mines in less than a month reflects the magnitude of the challenge faced by Yemeni lands from these dangerous remnants, noting that during the same period, 315,710 square meters of Yemeni land were cleared.
These significant successes achieved by the project come as part of the ongoing efforts to clear Yemeni lands from the remnants of war and mines that pose a threat to civilian lives and hinder development and reconstruction operations in various Yemeni regions.
The Director General of the Masam project, Osama bin Youssef Al-Qusaybi, had previously announced today that the total number of mines removed from Yemen has reached 501,243 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices since the project's launch at the end of June 2018, until the 20th of June this month.
He pointed out that this total is distributed among 339,485 unexploded ordnance, 8,240 explosive devices, 146,712 anti-tank mines, and 6,802 anti-personnel mines, indicating that the project team has managed to clear 67,748,706 square meters of Yemeni land since its inception.
Al-Qusaybi stated that this large number represents the outcome of the project's work since its launch in mid-2018 until the day before yesterday (Friday), June 20, 2025, indicating the scale of the humanitarian disaster faced by the Yemeni people due to the Houthis' insistence on destroying the land and its people in every inch of Yemen.
He added that what the Masam project has achieved, while representing an accomplishment attributed to the project fully funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in accordance with international standards related to mine clearance operations, is also an indicator that raises concern about the danger faced by the ordinary Yemeni citizen in their daily life, represented by an overwhelming Houthi desire to kill them by any means and in any location.
Regarding estimates of the number of mines that the Houthis have planted in Yemen, the Director General of the Masam project clarified that this is an extremely difficult issue, as the planting of mines by this group has not stopped for a single day, including during times of ceasefire and temporary truce periods.
