The President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, urged the Republic of Italy to officially recognize the State of Palestine, considering this a step in the right direction that helps achieve security and stability in the region. He praised the statements made by the Italian Foreign Minister at the end of last month before the Italian Parliament, in which he said that the ongoing Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip has become unacceptable and must stop immediately.

The President of the Arab Parliament expressed, during his meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lorenzo Fontana, on the sidelines of the second parliamentary conference on interfaith dialogue organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the Italian Parliament, his hope that there would be policies and measures at the level of the Italian state to help pressure the occupying entity to stop the genocide and starvation war it is waging against the Palestinian people.

The President of the Arab Parliament considered that his visit to Italy and his meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and previously with the President of the Senate, represent the launch of institutional and regular relations between the Arab Parliament and the Italian Parliament. The two sides agreed to sign a cooperation agreement in the near future.

During the meeting, the President of the Arab Parliament also discussed the developments in the Middle East, clarifying that the region is experiencing unprecedented tension due to the war between Iran and the occupying entity. He emphasized that the region cannot bear further escalation and that diplomatic solutions are the only ones capable of achieving security and stability. He also touched upon the Libyan crisis, affirming that the stability of Libya is a fundamental pillar for the stability of the entire Mediterranean region, and confirming the full support of the Arab Parliament for organizing comprehensive elections as soon as possible, away from external interventions and narrow interests.

For his part, the Speaker of the Italian House of Representatives confirmed that enhancing relations with the Arab Parliament provides an important ground for strengthening dialogue between Italy and Arab countries and opening channels for continuous communication at the parliamentary level. He welcomed the invitation from the President of the Arab Parliament to visit the Parliament in Cairo and deliver a speech before one of its sessions as soon as possible.

Regarding the ongoing developments in the region, Fontana confirmed that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is unbearable and that the actions being committed against the Palestinian people are unacceptable, calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. He affirmed that Italy firmly supports the two-state solution as the only way to achieve security and stability in the Middle East, while stressing the necessity of stopping the ongoing wars in the region, warning that they only lead to the complete destruction of peoples, and that there is no alternative to diplomatic solutions.

The Speaker of the Italian House of Representatives emphasized the necessity of ensuring maritime navigation security in the Strait region and the Red Sea, considering it a pressing strategic necessity for all countries in the region. He also affirmed his country's full support for the security and stability of Libya, as it is a strategic interest for all countries in the Mediterranean region.
