أعلنت وزيرة الخزانة البريطانية ريتشل ريفز، اليوم (الأحد)، إن بلادها يمكن أن تدعم إسرائيل في صراعها مع إيران، موضحة أن قرار إرسال طائرات عسكرية إضافية إلى الشرق الأوسط اتخذ أساساً لحماية القواعد البريطانية وأفرادها.
وقالت ريفز في تصريحات لشبكة «سكاي نيوز» البريطانية: إن قرار إرسال طائرات إضافية إلى المنطقة «خطوة احترازية»، مشددة على ضرورة وقف التصعيد في الصراع. وحول ما إذا كانت بريطانيا ستقدم المساعدة لإسرائيل إذا طلب منها ذلك، قالت ريفز: «ساعدنا إسرائيل سابقاً عندما انطلقت صواريخ باتجاهها»، مضيفة: «نرسل معدات لحماية أنفسنا وأيضاً ربما لدعم حلفائنا».
وكان رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر قد أعلن، أمس، نقل أصول عسكرية بريطانية إضافية، منها طائرات مقاتلة، إلى الشرق الأوسط لتقديم الدعم الطارئ في أنحاء المنطقة، مضيفاً: «نحن ننقل أصولاً إلى المنطقة، منها طائرات مقاتلة، وذلك لتقديم الدعم في حالات الطوارئ في المنطقة».
وعقب تصريحات ستارمر بساعات أعلنت القوات البحرية الإيرانية إيقاف مدمرة تجسس بريطانية في شمال المحيط الهندي، وإجبارها على تغيير مسارها، بحسب وكالة «تسنيم» الإيرانية للأنباء.
ونقلت الوكالة عن العلاقات العامة للمنطقة البحرية الأولى التابعة للقوات البحرية قولها، في بيان، إن مدمّرة بريطانية دخلت ليل (الجمعة/ السبت) شمال المحيط الهندي؛ بهدف توجيه صواريخ تابعة لإسرائيل نحو الأراضي الإيرانية، «وقد تمّ رصدها في الوقت المناسب من قبل أنظمة الاستطلاع التابعة للبحرية الإيرانية».
وأشار البيان إلى أن طائرات مسيّرة تابعة للقوات البحرية وجّهت إنذارات مباشرة للمدمّرة، ومنعت تقدمها نحو مياه الخليج ما حال دون مواصلة المدمّرة في مسارها.
وكانت الطائرات البريطانية قد أسقطت في إبريل طائرات مسيرة إيرانية متجهة إلى إسرائيل.
The British Treasury Secretary Rachel Reeves announced today (Sunday) that her country could support Israel in its conflict with Iran, explaining that the decision to send additional military aircraft to the Middle East was primarily made to protect British bases and personnel.
Reeves stated in remarks to the British network "Sky News" that the decision to send additional aircraft to the region is a "precautionary step," emphasizing the need to de-escalate the conflict. When asked whether Britain would provide assistance to Israel if requested, Reeves said, "We have helped Israel before when rockets were launched towards it," adding, "We are sending equipment to protect ourselves and also perhaps to support our allies."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced yesterday the transfer of additional British military assets, including fighter jets, to the Middle East to provide emergency support across the region, stating, "We are moving assets to the region, including fighter jets, to provide support in emergencies in the area."
Hours after Starmer's remarks, the Iranian naval forces announced the interception of a British spy destroyer in the northern Indian Ocean, forcing it to change its course, according to the Iranian news agency "Tasnim."
The agency quoted the public relations of the first naval zone of the naval forces as saying in a statement that a British destroyer entered the northern Indian Ocean late on (Friday/Saturday) with the aim of directing missiles belonging to Israel towards Iranian territory, "and it was detected in a timely manner by the reconnaissance systems of the Iranian navy."
The statement indicated that drones belonging to the naval forces issued direct warnings to the destroyer, preventing its advance towards Gulf waters, which hindered the destroyer's continued course.
British aircraft had shot down Iranian drones heading towards Israel in April.
