تصاعدت الاحتجاجات في لوس أنجليس ضد إجراءات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب لمكافحة الهجرة غير الشرعية، لليوم الرابع على التوالي.
وطالت المظاهرات، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، مدينتي دلاس وأوستن في ولاية تكساس، فيما تمكنت قوات الشرطة من إبعاد الاحتجاجات عن مراكز احتجاز المهاجرين غير الشرعيين. وأعلن مسؤولون أمريكيون نشر نحو 700 عنصر من مشاة البحرية في لوس أنجليس، أكبر مدينة في ولاية كاليفورنيا.
واعتبر رئيس شرطة لوس أنجليس جيم ماكدونال، في بيان، أن نشر مشاة البحرية «في غياب التنسيق الواضح» يمثل تحدياً لوجستياً وعملياً كبيراً لعناصر الشرطة المسؤولين عن حماية المدينة.
وفي تصعيد جديد للمواجهة المفتوحة بين الحكومة الفيدرالية وسلطات ولاية كاليفورنيا، أعلنت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية أن الرئيس ترمب أمر بإرسال 2000 عنصر إضافي من الحرس الوطني إلى لوس أنجلوس للتصدّي للاحتجاجات الجارية في المدينة.
وأفادت القيادة العسكرية لأمريكا الشمالية بأنّ العملية الجارية في لوس أنجليس، والتي أُطلق عليها اسم «تاسك فورس 51» تضمّ نحو 2100 من عناصر الحرس الوطني و700 من المارينز في الخدمة الفعلية. وأكّدت في بيان أنّ هؤلاء جميعاً تلقّوا تدريباً على تهدئة الأوضاع، وإدارة الحشود، وقواعد استخدام القوة.
وكان مسؤول أمريكي كبير قال إنه في ضوء تزايد التهديدات ضدّ مسؤولين فيدراليين ومبانٍ فيدرالية، فإنّ 700 عنصر من مشاة البحرية العاملين في كامب بندلتون، القاعدة العسكرية الواقعة على بُعد ساعتين جنوب المدينة، سيتم نشرهم في لوس أنجليس للمساعدة في حماية المسؤولين الفيدراليين والمباني الفيدرالية.
من جانبه، ندّد حاكم كاليفورنيا الديمقراطي غافين نيوسوم، بشدة، بقرار نشر عناصر المارينز. وكتب في منشور على منصة إكس: «إنّ مشاة البحرية الأمريكية خدموا بشرف عبر حروب متعددة دفاعاً عن الديمقراطية. لا ينبغي نشرهم على الأراضي الأمريكية لمواجهة مواطنيهم».
Protests in Los Angeles against U.S. President Donald Trump's measures to combat illegal immigration have escalated for the fourth consecutive day.
Today (Tuesday), the demonstrations spread to the cities of Dallas and Austin in Texas, while police forces managed to keep the protests away from the detention centers for illegal immigrants. U.S. officials announced the deployment of about 700 Marines in Los Angeles, the largest city in California.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell stated in a statement that the deployment of Marines "in the absence of clear coordination" poses a significant logistical and operational challenge for the police officers responsible for protecting the city.
In a new escalation of the open confrontation between the federal government and California state authorities, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that President Trump ordered the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard members to Los Angeles to address the ongoing protests in the city.
The North American military command reported that the ongoing operation in Los Angeles, dubbed "Task Force 51," includes about 2,100 National Guard members and 700 active-duty Marines. It confirmed in a statement that all of them have received training in de-escalation, crowd management, and rules of engagement.
A senior U.S. official stated that in light of the increasing threats against federal officials and federal buildings, 700 Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, the military base located two hours south of the city, will be deployed in Los Angeles to help protect federal officials and federal buildings.
For his part, California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, strongly condemned the decision to deploy Marines. He wrote in a post on X: "U.S. Marines have served honorably through multiple wars in defense of democracy. They should not be deployed on American soil to confront their fellow citizens."
