كشفت وسائل إعلام غربية اليوم (الخميس) تحقيق الجيش اللبناني تقدماً ملحوظاً في جهود نزع معظم سلاح حزب الله في معاقله الجنوبية، مؤكدة أن الدولة تحرص على احتكار السلاح بيدها.
ونقلت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» عن مسؤولين أمريكيين وإسرائيليين قولهم إنهم فوجئوا بتقدم الجيش اللبناني في ملف نزع سلاح حزب الله، مبينة أن الجيش اللبناني حقق تقدماً ملحوظاً في جهود نزع معظم سلاح حزب الله في معاقله الجنوبية، بدعم من معلومات استخباراتية قدمتها إسرائيل، في الوقت الذي تسعى فيه الحكومة الجديدة في البلاد إلى تطبيق وقف إطلاق النار الذي أوقف موجة قتال عنيفة مع إسرائيل العام الماضي، متسائلة عن ما إذا كانت الدولة اللبنانية قادرة على إكمال المهمة في الجنوب وتوسيع جهودها لتشمل بقية أنحاء البلاد؟
ونقلت الصحيفة عن رئيس الوزراء اللبناني نواف سلام قوله: «يجب أن تحتكر الدولة السلاح في جميع الأراضي اللبنانية»، مشيراً إلى أن الحكومة اللبنانية حققت نحو 80% من أهدافها في نزع سلاح المليشيات جنوب البلاد.
وأشار إلى أن الحكومة اللبنانية لا تريد وضع البلاد على مسار الحرب الأهلية، ولكنها ملتزمة بتوسيع سلطة الدولة وتعزيزها.
وكان سلام قد أكد في تصريحات صحفية سابقة هذا الأسبوع أن مشروع حكومته يقوم على تلازم الإصلاح والسيادة التي تستوجب حصرية السلاح، مشدداً على ضرورة التحرر من ثنائية السلاح التي كانت تؤدي إلى ثنائية القرار وضياع مشروع الدولة الوطنية.
ولفت إلى أن حكومته لن تسكت عن بقاء أي سلاح خارج سلطة الدولة، في إشارة إلى السلاح الفلسطيني أيضاً.
Western media revealed today (Thursday) that the Lebanese army has made significant progress in efforts to disarm most of Hezbollah in its southern strongholds, emphasizing that the state is keen on monopolizing weapons in its hands.
The "Wall Street Journal" reported that American and Israeli officials expressed surprise at the Lebanese army's progress in the disarmament of Hezbollah, indicating that the Lebanese army has made notable advancements in efforts to disarm most of Hezbollah in its southern strongholds, supported by intelligence information provided by Israel, at a time when the new government in the country is striving to implement the ceasefire that halted a wave of violent fighting with Israel last year, questioning whether the Lebanese state is capable of completing the mission in the south and expanding its efforts to include other parts of the country.
The newspaper quoted Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam as saying: "The state must monopolize weapons throughout Lebanese territory," pointing out that the Lebanese government has achieved about 80% of its goals in disarming militias in the south of the country.
He indicated that the Lebanese government does not want to put the country on the path to civil war, but is committed to expanding and strengthening the authority of the state.
Salam had confirmed in previous press statements this week that his government's project is based on the interdependence of reform and sovereignty, which necessitates the exclusivity of weapons, stressing the need to free the country from the duality of weapons that led to a duality of decision-making and the loss of the national state project.
He pointed out that his government will not remain silent about the existence of any weapons outside the authority of the state, referring to Palestinian weapons as well.
