التقى المبعوث الأمريكي إلى سورية توماس باراك اليوم (السبت) الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع في إسطنبول، مشيداً بـ«الخطوات الجادة» التي اتخذها في ما يتعلق بالمقاتلين الأجانب.
وقال باراك الذي يشغل أيضاً منصب سفير الولايات المتحدة لدى تركيا في بيان: أكدت للشرع دعم واشنطن للشعب السوري بعد سنوات طويلة من الصراع والعنف، مشيراً إلى أن اللقاء عُقد في إسطنبول.ولفت مبعوث الرئيس الأمريكي إلى أن الشرع اتخذ أيضاً خطوات ملموسة بشأن مكافحة تنظيم داعش، والمخيمات، ومراكز الاحتجاز في شمال شرق سورية، مؤكداً التزام بلاده بمواصلة العمل المشترك لتطوير الاستثمارات في القطاع الخاص داخل سورية لإعادة بناء الاقتصاد.وأشار باراك إلى أن استثمارات القطاع الخاص داخل سورية ستشمل شركاء إقليميين ودوليين مثل أمريكا وتركيا ودول الخليج وأوروبا، مشدداً بالقول: «اللقاء مع الشرع أسفر عن التزام مشترك من بلدينا بالمضي قُدماً في مجالات الاستثمار والتنمية».بدورها قالت الرئاسة السورية في بيان إن الشرع ووزير خارجيته أسعد الشيباني التقيا المبعوث الأمريكي إلى سورية توماس باراك، على هامش زيارة الرئيس السوري إلى تركيا.وكان الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع قد التقى الرئيس التركي رجب طيب أردوغان الذي جدد تأكيده على دعم بلاده المستمر لسورية، وترحيبه برفع العقوبات الأمريكية والأوروبية عنها.وأكد أردوغان التزام تركيا بتعزيز التعاون مع سورية في مختلف القطاعات، لاسيما في مجالات الطاقة والدفاع والنقل، معلناً رفض بلاده القاطع للعدوان الإسرائيلي على الأراضي السورية ومعارضة ذلك.
The American envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, met today (Saturday) with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara in Istanbul, praising the "serious steps" he has taken regarding foreign fighters.
Barak, who also serves as the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, stated in a press release: "I confirmed to al-Shara Washington's support for the Syrian people after many years of conflict and violence," noting that the meeting took place in Istanbul. The U.S. envoy emphasized that al-Shara has also taken tangible steps regarding the fight against ISIS, the camps, and detention centers in northeastern Syria, reaffirming his country's commitment to continue joint efforts to develop investments in the private sector within Syria to rebuild the economy. Barak pointed out that private sector investments in Syria will include regional and international partners such as the U.S., Turkey, Gulf countries, and Europe, stressing: "The meeting with al-Shara resulted in a joint commitment from our two countries to move forward in the fields of investment and development." For its part, the Syrian presidency stated in a statement that al-Shara and his Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shibani, met with the American envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, on the sidelines of the Syrian president's visit to Turkey. Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara had met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who reiterated his country's ongoing support for Syria and welcomed the lifting of American and European sanctions against it. Erdoğan affirmed Turkey's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Syria in various sectors, particularly in energy, defense, and transportation, announcing his country's firm rejection of Israeli aggression against Syrian territory and opposing it.
