فعلى سبيل المثال، نعمل مع البرازيل على تجهيز سفينة «فيتال دي أوليفييرا» بتقنيات متقدمة لأبحاث الجبال البحرية، ومع جنوب أفريقيا للمشاركة في قيادة بعثات مستقبلية على متن السفينة «إس إيه أجولهاس 2»، التي ستجمع نخبة من العلماء من مختلف أنحاء جنوب أفريقيا .كما نستثمر في المواهب الشابة من خلال التدريب العملي في البعثات، وإطلاق شراكات إقليمية، وإتاحة العلوم للجميع. ونعمل على دمج أفكار العلماء الجدد ضمن البعثات، وضمان نشر البيانات المستخلصة عالميًا، بما يسهم في تحسين جودة الأبحاث من حيث التمثيل والتعاون والتأثير الإيجابي.

•• نحن نؤمن بأن العلوم التي ننتجها اليوم ستُشكل مستقبل البشرية، ولهذا نحرص على إشراك الجيل القادم من الآن. تلتزم أوشن كويست بتمكين المهنيين الشباب في مجال علوم المحيطات من خلال التدريب العملي، والمشاركة في البعثات البحثية، والإرشاد العالمي. الهدف هو بناء مجتمع عالمي مستدام ومتنوّع من القادة والعلماء والمهندسين وصناع السياسات الذين سيتولون مستقبل إدارة المحيطات

• كيف يمكن تعزيز دور استكشاف المحيطات وعلومها في التعاون العالمي والمجال الدبلوماسي، وخصوصاً بالنسبة للدول الناشئة والأفكار التي لا تحظى بتمثيل كافٍ؟
•• تُعد المحيطات من أقوى صلات الوصل على كوكب الأرض، إذ تغطي نسبة 70% منه تقريباً. ويمثل المحيط المحلي جزءاً من نظامٍ واحد مترابط، ولذلك لا يمكن إدارته بشكلٍ مستدام إلا من خلال التعاون الدولي.
وتوفر علوم المحيطات جسراً للبيانات والعلاقات الدبلوماسية، حيث تخلق الدول أسس التفاهم المتبادل والمسؤولية المشتركة عندما تتعاون في الأبحاث العلمية وتتشارك النتائج وتتيح المشاركة للعلماء الناشئين عبر الحدود. ويحمل هذا الأمر أهميةً كبرى، وخصوصاً بالنسبة لدول جنوب العالمي، والتي قد تتوفر لديها الكفاءات ولكنها لا تتمتع بوصولٍ كافٍ إلى المعدات أو التمويل اللازمين.

•• تُفخر أوشن كويست بتسجيل انطلاقتها الدولية الأولى خلال مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة للمحيطات 2025، أكبر تجمع عالمي معني بشؤون المحيطات. وبصفتها مؤسسة سعودية غير ربحية تُعنى باستكشاف أعماق المحيطات، قدمت أوشن كويست منظورًا يرتكز على الابتكار العلمي، والشراكات العادلة، والإيمان العميق بقوة البيانات والتكنولوجيا في إحداث التغيير.
مثّل المؤتمر لحظة فارقة لتعزيز الفهم العالمي لأعماق المحيطات ضمن الحوارات الدولية الهادفة إلى صياغة السياسات المستقبلية. جاء هذا بعد إتمام بعثتنا الأولى، بعثة «حول أفريقيا». هذه الرحلة، التي تم تنفيذها بالتعاون مع أوشن إكس و20 مؤسسة دولية، قامت برسم خرائط لأكثر من 120,000 كيلومتر مربع من قاع المحيط، وجمعت 69 عالماً من 31 دولة، بالإضافة إلى إشراك 40 من المهنيين الشباب في بدايات مسيرتهم المهنية في علوم المحيطات (ECOPs – Early-Career Ocean Professionals).

• What inspired the founding of Ocean Quest? What role do you aspire to play in the field of ocean sciences at a global level?
•• Ocean Quest is a Saudi non-profit organization aimed at accelerating the exploration of the depths of the oceans, supporting technological innovations, and forming partnerships that contribute to the development of interdisciplinary ocean research for the benefit of humanity and enhancing global public awareness of the ocean world

The organization focuses on exploring depths beyond 200 meters, which are among the most mysterious and exciting areas on Earth, with a special emphasis on the ecosystems in the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Northern and Southern Atlantic Ocean.
The organization emphasizes ocean depth exploration and international collaboration, with key priorities including studying seamount systems, developing digital twin technologies, and building capacity through knowledge exchange with scientists and specialists in ocean sciences.
• One of Ocean Quest's long-term goals is to facilitate the exploration of ocean depths. Could you tell us more about the organization's efforts to lay the necessary foundations for that?
•• The mission of Ocean Quest revolves around facilitating participation in the exploration of ocean depths. We have succeeded in enhancing the inclusivity of this field by establishing partnerships with countries that have dedicated vessels but lack the necessary resources to operate them.
For example, we are working with Brazil to equip the vessel "Vital de Oliveira" with advanced technologies for seamount research, and with South Africa to participate in leading future missions aboard the "SA Agulhas II," which will gather a select group of scientists from across South Africa . We also invest in young talents through hands-on training in missions, launching regional partnerships, and making science accessible to all. We aim to integrate the ideas of new scientists into missions and ensure that the data collected is shared globally, contributing to improving the quality of research in terms of representation, collaboration, and positive impact.
• Why is empowering young professionals in ocean sciences crucial for Ocean Quest?
•• We believe that the science we produce today will shape the future of humanity, which is why we are keen to engage the next generation from now. Ocean Quest is committed to empowering young professionals in ocean sciences through hands-on training, participation in research missions, and global mentoring. The goal is to build a sustainable and diverse global community of leaders, scientists, engineers, and policymakers who will take on the future of ocean management

This approach aligns with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, which recognizes the vital role of young professionals in achieving long-term impact. Since our first mission, we have been keen to actively involve them, ensuring the creation of real opportunities for participation and multilateral collaboration.

• How can the role of ocean exploration and its sciences be enhanced in global cooperation and the diplomatic field, especially for emerging countries and underrepresented ideas?
•• Oceans are one of the strongest connections on planet Earth, covering about 70% of it. The local ocean represents part of a single interconnected system, and therefore cannot be managed sustainably without international cooperation.
Ocean sciences provide a bridge for data and diplomatic relations, as countries create foundations for mutual understanding and shared responsibility when they collaborate in scientific research, share results, and allow emerging scientists to participate across borders. This is of great importance, especially for countries in the Global South, which may have the competencies but lack sufficient access to the necessary equipment or funding.
At Ocean Quest, we recognize the importance of holistic science, and we support open data, joint missions, and equitable partnerships, helping emerging countries contribute to ocean governance. This approach is reflected in our collaboration with countries like Brazil, South Africa, and Cape Verde.
• What made the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 a pivotal moment for Ocean Quest?
•• Ocean Quest is proud to mark its first international launch during the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025, the largest global gathering concerned with ocean affairs. As a Saudi non-profit organization dedicated to exploring the depths of the oceans, Ocean Quest presented a perspective based on scientific innovation, equitable partnerships, and a deep belief in the power of data and technology to effect change.
The conference represented a turning point in enhancing global understanding of the ocean depths within international dialogues aimed at shaping future policies. This came after completing our first mission, the "Around Africa" mission. This journey, conducted in collaboration with OceanX and 20 international institutions, mapped over 120,000 square kilometers of the ocean floor and gathered 69 scientists from 31 countries, in addition to involving 40 young professionals at the beginning of their careers in ocean sciences (ECOPs – Early-Career Ocean Professionals).
The mission contributed to providing high-value data for understanding marine ecosystems, paving the way for the discussions and partnerships witnessed at the conference, and highlighting the importance of international cooperation and joint scientific efforts

Engaging with the public is a core aspect of Ocean Quest's mission; thus, we participated in coordinating an exhibition dedicated to the deep sea within the green zone of the conference, allowing us the opportunity to introduce a wider audience to the importance of exploring the depths of the oceans and promoting concepts of inclusivity and collaboration. We believe that ocean exploration is not merely a scientific endeavor but an extraordinary tool for education, awareness, and global communication.
