البيئة مسؤولية مشتركة تعزز التعاون بين الأمم
«مبادرة زراعة الأشجار» تجسّد عمق العلاقات بين الشعبين
أطلقت السفارة السريلانكية برنامجها البيئي «مبادرة زراعة الأشجار» في منتزه الأحساء الوطني بالمنطقة الشرقية، وذلك في إطار احتفال السفارة بالذكرى الخمسين لإقامة العلاقات الدبلوماسية بين سريلانكا والمملكة.
وقال السفير السريلانكي لدى المملكة أمير أجود، لـ«عكاظ»، إن المبادرة تمثل رمزاً حياً للصداقة العميقة بين الشعبين، وتجسيداً للتعاون المشترك في مواجهة التحديات البيئية، مؤكداً أن الأشجار «ليست مجرد غطاء أخضر، بل هي جسر من الأمل يمتد بين الأجيال، ويعكس التزام البلدين تجاه الاستدامة والعمل المناخي.
وأضاف السفير أجود: «نحن فخورون بأن نشارك المملكة رؤيتها الطموحة 2030، ومبادرتها الرائدة «السعودية الخضراء»، التي تلهم العالم أجمع في سعيها لزراعة 10 مليارات شجرة، وتحقيق مستقبل أكثر استدامة للإنسان والكوكب».
يشار إلى أن الفعالية، شهدت مشاركة عدد من أعضاء السفارة وعائلاتهم، وأفراد من الجالية السريلانكية في الدمام والجبيل، الذين حرصوا على غرس الأشجار بأيديهم، في أجواء احتفالية عكست روح التعاون والمحبة.
وأشار السفير أجود، إلى أن هذه الفعالية تمثّل محطة جديدة في سلسلة المبادرات التي بدأتها السفارة عام 2024 في العاصمة الرياض، عندما زرعت الأشجار في 5 منتزهات مختلفة، بالتعاون مع أمانة الرياض، مضيفاً أن السفارة ستواصل تنظيم مثل هذه البرامج في مناطق أخرى من المملكة خلال الفترة القادمة، تعزيزاً للعلاقات الثنائية، ودعماً للجهود الوطنية في حماية البيئة ومكافحة التصحر».
واختتم السفير حديثه لـ«عكاظ» قائلاً: «نغرس اليوم أشجاراً تحمل في جذورها معاني الوفاء والصداقة، وتنمو في ظلالها قيم التعاون بين بلدينا العزيزين».

The Sri Lankan embassy launched its environmental program, the "Tree Planting Initiative," at Al-Ahsa National Park in the Eastern Province, as part of the embassy's celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Kingdom, Amir Ajood, told "Okaz" that the initiative represents a living symbol of the deep friendship between the two peoples and embodies the joint cooperation in facing environmental challenges, emphasizing that trees "are not just a green cover, but a bridge of hope extending between generations, reflecting the two countries' commitment to sustainability and climate action."
Ambassador Ajood added, "We are proud to share the Kingdom's ambitious Vision 2030 and its pioneering initiative 'Saudi Green,' which inspires the entire world in its quest to plant 10 billion trees and achieve a more sustainable future for humanity and the planet."
It is noteworthy that the event witnessed the participation of several embassy members and their families, as well as individuals from the Sri Lankan community in Dammam and Jubail, who were keen to plant trees with their own hands, in a celebratory atmosphere that reflected the spirit of cooperation and love.
Ambassador Ajood pointed out that this event represents a new milestone in the series of initiatives that the embassy started in 2024 in the capital, Riyadh, when it planted trees in five different parks in cooperation with the Riyadh Municipality, adding that the embassy will continue to organize such programs in other regions of the Kingdom in the coming period, enhancing bilateral relations and supporting national efforts in environmental protection and combating desertification.
He concluded his remarks to "Okaz" by saying, "Today we plant trees that carry in their roots the meanings of loyalty and friendship, growing in their shade the values of cooperation between our two dear countries."
