A government alliance between the Ministries of Investment and Transport, along with government agencies including the Transport Authority and the Hail Development Authority, is moving towards the establishment of a modern cargo port in the Hail region, in a strategic step aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency and connecting the north of the Kingdom with its south, east, and west.
This was revealed by Samer Bakr Jazar, General Director of the Transport and Logistics Services Sector at the Ministry of Investment, who confirmed that work is being carried out in a complementary manner between the Ministry of Investment, the Ministry of Transport, and their affiliated entities, in cooperation with the Hail Development Authority, to study the establishment of the port at a pivotal location at the intersection of the regional road network and rail lines in Hail.
Jazar explained, during his participation in a panel discussion titled "Investment Opportunities in the Transport and Logistics Sector" as part of the Hail Forum activities, that the project embodies the collaborative efforts between government entities and aims to create new investment opportunities and provide an attractive environment for local and international investors.
He added that the complementary work between the concerned parties does not stop at mapping out the port but goes beyond that to prepare Hail to be an advanced logistics platform with a competitive and attractive advantage capable of attracting major companies wishing to invest. He emphasized that the project will serve major economic objectives, including enhancing trade movement, improving goods distribution, and activating the strategic geographical location of the region, making it a key partner in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically in the axis of transforming the Kingdom into a global logistics hub. Economic consultant Eid Al-Eid stated in an interview with "Okaz" that the establishment of a cargo port in Hail represents a high-impact developmental shift, not only in supply chains but also in creating direct and indirect job opportunities in transportation, storage, and logistics services. He added that every modern cargo port serves as an economic driver for the surrounding area, with its effects reflected across multiple sectors. Al-Eid confirms that Hail's geographical location in the heart of Saudi Arabia gives it a rare strategic advantage, as it can serve the northern and northwestern regions and central Saudi Arabia through the capital, Riyadh, in addition to the highways connecting it to the holy sites in Medina and Mecca, which enhances its role as a logistics center at the heart of goods movement within the Kingdom.
The road network in Hail is among the largest at the regional level, extending over 5,550 kilometers, including highways, dual, and single roads, connecting the region with its national surroundings in all directions, making the new port a strategic pivot in the future transport system.
The project is expected to contribute to supporting regional economic development and expanding commercial activity in northern Saudi Arabia through advanced infrastructure that redraws the map of transport and logistics services in the region.
