شارك مساعد الأمين العام للاتصال والتعاون الدولي برابطة العالم الإسلامي، عبدالوهاب بن محمد الشهري، نيابةً عن الأمين العام للرابطة ورئيس هيئة علماء المسلمين، الشيخ الدكتور محمد بن عبدالكريم العيسى، في الاجتماع السنوي رفيع المستوى لمجموعة أصدقاء تحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات، المنعقد في نيويورك.
وشهد الاجتماع حضور الممثل السامي لتحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات، إلى جانب عدد من وزراء الخارجية والدبلوماسيين وممثلي المنظمات الدولية والدينية.
وخلال كلمته، استعرض الشهري موقف رابطة العالم الإسلامي من عدد من القضايا الدولية، وفي مقدمتها القضية الفلسطينية، مؤكدًا أهمية الانتقال بالحوار من إطار المبادئ والأفكار إلى خطوات عملية وشراكات قادرة على تحقيق نتائج ملموسة.
كما تناول جهود الرابطة في مجالات التعليم والحوار بين أتباع الأديان والثقافات، ودورها في دعم قيم التعايش وتعزيز السلم داخل المجتمعات.
وفي الشأن الفلسطيني، شدد الشهري على ضرورة حماية المدنيين في قطاع غزة وإنهاء معاناتهم، مؤكدًا أهمية تمكين الشعب الفلسطيني من حقوقه المشروعة، وفي مقدمتها إقامة دولته المستقلة ذات السيادة، وفق مسار حل الدولتين وقرارات الشرعية الدولية ذات الصلة.
وأكد أن التوصل إلى سلام عادل ودائم في المنطقة يتطلب معالجة جذور النزاع واحترام الحقوق المشروعة للشعب الفلسطيني، بما يسهم في تحقيق الاستقرار والسلام في المنطقة.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Communication and International Cooperation of the Muslim World League, Abdulwahab bin Mohammed Al-Shehri, participated on behalf of the Secretary-General of the League and the Chairman of the Council of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, in the annual high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, held in New York.
The meeting was attended by the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, along with several foreign ministers, diplomats, and representatives of international and religious organizations.
During his speech, Al-Shehri reviewed the position of the Muslim World League on several international issues, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the importance of transitioning dialogue from a framework of principles and ideas to practical steps and partnerships capable of achieving tangible results.
He also addressed the League's efforts in the fields of education and dialogue among followers of different religions and cultures, and its role in supporting values of coexistence and promoting peace within communities.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Al-Shehri stressed the necessity of protecting civilians in the Gaza Strip and ending their suffering, affirming the importance of empowering the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of their independent sovereign state, in accordance with the two-state solution and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
He confirmed that achieving a just and lasting peace in the region requires addressing the root causes of the conflict and respecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, which contributes to achieving stability and peace in the region.
