The Governor of Sana'a, Major General Abdulqawi Sharif, confirmed that the tribes are on the brink of rising against the Houthi militia, and that the sons of the region will play their role in restoring their governorate and the return of state institutions.
In an interview with "Okaz," he stated that the armed forces are in a good position, and their morale is high, amidst positive developments on several fronts. We trust in the ability of the Yemeni armed forces to fulfill their national duty in restoring state institutions and ending the control of the Houthi militia.
He added that what matters to them today is that movements are disciplined and responsible, and that the safety of civilians and the preservation of public and private property are top priorities. He pointed out that coordination and unifying efforts among various Yemeni forces is important, and what is needed at this stage is to gather voices and efforts under one national goal, which is to restore the state and end the coup. The better the coordination, the better the results, mistakes are reduced, and lives are saved. Yemen today needs the efforts of its sons to unite and set aside differences in the face of the greater national interest. The Governor of Sana'a addressed several important topics in the following dialogue:
Continuous communication with tribal figures
• What is your primary focus as the Governor of Sana'a in light of mobilizing the fronts against the Houthis?
•• Our primary concern is the human being and their safety and security. Sana'a is not just land; it is people, tribes, villages, and districts. Any movement must prioritize the safety of people and the preservation of their lives and properties.
We are in continuous communication with many influential tribal figures, leaders, and politicians from Sana'a, and with anyone who can contribute to shielding citizens from the impacts of confrontation. We always emphasize that the homes, villages, farms, and properties of people must be protected, and that the goal is to restore the state and end the suffering of the people.
The tribes are ready for the battle of salvation
• What messages are you receiving from within Sana'a, and how do you deal with them?
•• We receive many messages from our people in Sana'a, from sheikhs, dignitaries, social figures, and citizens in various districts, reflecting the extent of the suffering people are experiencing and the growing rejection of the Houthi militia and its practices.
We listen to everyone and handle these messages with responsibility and concern, because the people of Sana'a know their districts, tribes, and circumstances best, and they are essential partners in restoring their governorate and building the next phase.
We have great confidence in our people and tribes
• How confident are you in the internal resistance from Sana'a against the Houthis, and when do you expect it to move?
•• We have great confidence in our people and tribes in Sana'a and our honorable citizens in general. Our people have suffered greatly over the past years from the atrocities, oppression, and humiliation at the hands of the Houthi militia, enduring much to protect their families, villages, and communities.
The tribes of Sana'a are known for their history and stances, and they are today on the brink of readiness. When our people feel that the hour of salvation has come and that the conditions are favorable, our tribes will rise from various districts and areas, and the sons of Sana'a from within will play their role in restoring their governorate and the return of state institutions. We are confident that the sons of the tribes know when to take their stand, and at the same time, we affirm that our goal is to end the suffering of the people with the least amount of bloodshed possible, to preserve the tribal and social fabric, and to prevent the phase from turning into vendettas or revenge among members of the same community.
The roads are the lifeblood of the people
• What about the main roads leading from all fronts to Sana'a, and when will they be opened?
•• The roads are lifelines for the people, and opening them is in the interest of every Yemeni. Citizens want to travel, trade, and transport their sick and their produce without fear or suffering. We hope that the roads between Sana'a and the other governorates will be opened and safe as soon as possible.
As for specifying a particular timing, that is linked to developments on the ground, but our principle is clear: the roads are for the people, and civilian life and their interests must remain as far away from the conflict as possible.
The morale of the army heroes is high
• What is the position of the Yemeni armed forces on various fronts?
•• Our armed forces are currently in a good position, and the morale of the army heroes is high, with positive developments on several fronts. We trust in the ability of the Yemeni armed forces to fulfill their national duty in restoring state institutions and ending the control of the Houthi militia.
What matters to us in all of this is that movements are disciplined and responsible, and that the safety of civilians and the preservation of public and private property are top priorities.
The field and its conditions determine victories
• When do you expect to regain the sites still controlled by the Houthi militia?
•• In military operations, I do not think it is wise to set predetermined dates. The field and its conditions determine that. However, we are optimistic about what is being achieved, and we have great confidence in our armed forces, our people, our tribes, and all the national forces that stand alongside the restoration of the state. For us, regaining any district or area is not the end of the mission; the true success is that security, state institutions, and services return with it, and that the citizen feels that their life, property, and dignity are protected.
We need one national goal
• How do you see the coordination among various Yemeni forces on the fronts?
•• Coordination and unifying efforts among various Yemeni forces is important. What we need at this stage is to gather voices and efforts under one national goal, which is to restore the state and end the coup. The better the coordination, the better the results, mistakes are reduced, and lives are saved. Yemen today needs the efforts of its sons to unite and set aside differences in the face of the greater national interest.
The crimes of the Houthis are documented
• What about the crimes committed by the Houthi militia against citizens in Sana'a?
•• Our people in Sana'a have endured much over the past years from arrests, oppression, extortion, economic pressures, and interference in people's lives and sources of livelihood. Many families have paid a heavy price due to these practices, and what citizens are subjected to should be documented. Anyone who commits a crime or violation against the people must be held accountable according to the law. At the same time, we do not want grievances to turn into vendettas or revenge. Those who commit a crime bear personal responsibility for it, and their tribe, family, or region should not bear their guilt.

The suffering in Sana'a will not last
• What would you like to say to the citizens in Sana'a and the other governorates still under Houthi control?
•• I say to our people in Sana'a and in all governorates: You are our people, and we are from you, and you are from us. Take care of yourselves, your children, and your homes. Trust that this suffering will not last forever, and that Yemen will return to its sons.
And I say to the sheikhs, dignitaries, and notables: You have a great responsibility at this stage; preserve blood, protect the weak, and safeguard homes, honor, and property. Do not allow for revenge, looting, or settling scores. We do not want to replace one oppression with another, nor one group with another; rather, we want the return of a state that respects the citizen and where the law is above all. Sana'a is a national and historical symbol and a home for all Yemenis, and its tribes have a history and authentic customs in protecting and preserving rights, properties, honor, and blood. These values are needed today more than ever.
Our message to everyone whose hands are not stained with the blood or wealth of Yemenis: The homeland is spacious for all, and there is no fear for those who choose to stand by their people, homeland, and state. Our goal in the end is not to continue the war, but to end it, and to return Yemenis to their homes and jobs, and to restore the state, security, and services, so that citizens can live safely and with dignity in Sana'a, Taiz, Marib, Aden, Hodeidah, Saada, and in every part of Yemen.
