رأس محافظ جدة الأمير سعود بن عبدالله بن جلوي، اليوم (الأحد)، اجتماعاً لاستعراض تقرير حملة «عينك على البحر» في نسختها السادسة، التي أطلقها برنامج التطوع والشراكة المجتمعية بمحافظة جدة لتعزيز حماية البيئة البحرية والشعاب المرجانية.
واطّلع المحافظ على أعمال الحملة وخطة إزالة خيوط ومعدات الصيد العالقة بالشعاب المرجانية، عبر المسح والرصد والانتشال الآمن والتوثيق، بمشاركة غواصين متخصصين، إلى جانب فرز المخلفات وإعادة تدويرها، وتوعية الصيادين للحدّ من فقدان معدات الصيد وإلقائها في البحر.
واستعرض الاجتماع مبادرة استزراع المرجان، وهي مبادرة بيئية تعليمية مجتمعية طويلة المدى، تربط حماية الشعاب المرجانية بالتوعية والعلوم المجتمعية والتعلم الخدمي والقيادة الشبابية، وتهدف إلى تحويل معرفة الأطفال واليافعين إلى سلوك مسؤول ومشاركة مجتمعية تسهم في حماية البيئة البحرية.
وتتضمن المبادرة تعريف المشاركين بأهمية الشعاب المرجانية وتقنيات استزراعها ودعم استعادتها، إلى جانب الملاحظة والتوثيق وجمع البيانات البيئية المبسطة، وتنمية المسؤولية والعمل الجماعي، مع قياس النتائج والأثر قبل التوسع في تنفيذها.
The Governor of Jeddah, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, chaired a meeting today (Sunday) to review the report of the "Your Eye on the Sea" campaign in its sixth edition, launched by the Volunteer and Community Partnership Program in Jeddah to enhance the protection of the marine environment and coral reefs.
The governor was briefed on the campaign's activities and the plan to remove fishing lines and equipment entangled in the coral reefs, through surveying, monitoring, safe retrieval, and documentation, with the participation of specialized divers, in addition to sorting waste and recycling it, and raising awareness among fishermen to reduce the loss of fishing equipment and its disposal in the sea.
The meeting reviewed the coral cultivation initiative, which is a long-term environmental educational community initiative that links the protection of coral reefs with awareness, social sciences, service learning, and youth leadership. It aims to transform the knowledge of children and adolescents into responsible behavior and community participation that contributes to the protection of the marine environment.
The initiative includes educating participants about the importance of coral reefs and techniques for cultivating and supporting their recovery, as well as observation, documentation, and the collection of simplified environmental data, and fostering responsibility and teamwork, while measuring results and impact before expanding its implementation.
