تشارك المملكة العربية السعودية الإثنين القادم في أعمال الدورة الـ17 لمؤتمر الأطراف في اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر، التي تستضيفها منغوليا خلال الفترة من 17 إلى 28 أغسطس الجاري، بمشاركة الدول الأطراف والمنظمات الدولية والجهات المعنية، فيما تسلّم المملكة رئاسة المؤتمر إلى منغوليا، بعد رئاسة شهدت إطلاق وتنفيذ مبادرات وشراكات دولية انبثقت من مؤتمر الرياض (COP16).
أبرز المبادرات
وتستعرض المملكة خلال مشاركتها أبرز المبادرات التي قادتها خلال فترة رئاستها، وفي مقدمتها شراكة الرياض العالمية من أجل مقاومة الجفاف، وأجندة عمل الرياض التي ارتفعت من 35 إلى أكثر من 100 مبادرة، والمبادرة الدولية للإنذار المبكر من العواصف الرملية والترابية، إلى جانب تفعيل مبادرة الأعمال من أجل الأرض (Business4Land).
وكانت المملكة استضافت الدورة الـ16 للمؤتمر في الرياض خلال ديسمبر 2024، بمشاركة 197 طرفًا، واعتماد 39 قرارًا، وحشد أكثر من 12 مليار دولار لدعم استعادة الأراضي ومقاومة الجفاف.
40 فعالية
وتشارك المملكة في الدورة الجديدة عبر جناح وطني في المنطقة الزرقاء يضم أكثر من 40 فعالية جانبية، وجناحًا لمبادرة الشرق الأوسط الأخضر، كما تترأس الاجتماع الأخير لمكتب مؤتمر الأطراف قبل تسليم الرئاسة إلى منغوليا، وتعقد اجتماعات مرتبطة بشراكة الرياض العالمية من أجل مقاومة الجفاف.
وتختتم المملكة بمشاركتها مدة رئاستها للدورة الـ16، بعدما أسهمت في تحويل مخرجات مؤتمر الرياض إلى مبادرات وشراكات وآليات تنفيذية تدعم الجهود الدولية لمواجهة تدهور الأراضي والجفاف وتعزيز استدامة الموارد الطبيعية.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will participate next Monday in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, hosted by Mongolia from August 17 to 28, with the participation of the parties, international organizations, and relevant stakeholders, while the Kingdom will hand over the presidency of the conference to Mongolia, after a presidency that witnessed the launch and implementation of international initiatives and partnerships that emerged from the Riyadh Conference (COP16).
Key Initiatives
During its participation, the Kingdom will showcase the key initiatives it led during its presidency, foremost among them the Global Riyadh Partnership for Drought Resilience, the Riyadh Action Agenda which increased from 35 to over 100 initiatives, the International Initiative for Early Warning of Sand and Dust Storms, along with activating the Business for Land (Business4Land) initiative.
The Kingdom hosted the 16th session of the conference in Riyadh in December 2024, with the participation of 197 parties, the adoption of 39 decisions, and the mobilization of over $12 billion to support land restoration and drought resilience.
40 Events
The Kingdom will participate in the new session through a national pavilion in the blue zone that includes more than 40 side events, and a pavilion for the Green Middle East Initiative. It will also chair the final meeting of the Conference of the Parties Bureau before handing over the presidency to Mongolia, and hold meetings related to the Global Riyadh Partnership for Drought Resilience.
The Kingdom will conclude its presidency of the 16th session with its participation, having contributed to transforming the outcomes of the Riyadh Conference into initiatives, partnerships, and executive mechanisms that support international efforts to combat land degradation and drought and enhance the sustainability of natural resources.
