اختير رئيس الهيئة العامة للمساحة والمعلومات الجيومكانية الدكتور المهندس محمد يحيى آل صايل، رئيساً مشاركاً للجنة خبراء الأمم المتحدة لإدارة المعلومات الجيومكانية العالمية (UN-GGIM)، وذلك خلال أعمال اجتماعها السادس عشر المنعقد في مقر الأمم المتحدة بمدينة نيويورك.
وأعرب آل صايل، عن اعتزازه بثقة الدول الأعضاء، مؤكداً تطلعه إلى مواصلة العمل مع أمانة اللجنة ومكتبها لتعزيز التعاون الدولي، ودعم الدول الأعضاء في تطوير منظوماتها الجيومكانية الوطنية، وبناء القدرات وتبادل الخبرات.
ويرأس آل صايل، كذلك، اللجنة العربية لخبراء الأمم المتحدة لإدارة المعلومات الجيومكانية العالمية، التي تتولى المملكة رئاستها وأمانتها العامة، ممثلةً بالهيئة العامة للمساحة والمعلومات الجيومكانية.
وتُعد لجنة خبراء الأمم المتحدة منصة دولية لتنسيق جهود الدول في مجال المعلومات الجيومكانية، ووضع الأطر والتوجهات المشتركة، بما يسهم في توظيفها في مجالات التنمية وصناعة القرار.
The President of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information, Dr. Engineer Mohammed Yahya Al-Sail, has been appointed as a Co-Chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) during its sixteenth meeting held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Al-Sail expressed his pride in the trust of the member states, affirming his eagerness to continue working with the committee's secretariat and office to enhance international cooperation and support member states in developing their national geospatial systems, building capacities, and exchanging experiences.
Al-Sail also chairs the Arab Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management, which is headed and administered by the Kingdom, represented by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information.
The UN Committee of Experts serves as an international platform to coordinate the efforts of countries in the field of geospatial information, establishing common frameworks and directions that contribute to its application in development and decision-making processes.
