يشهد يونيو من هذا العام مرور اثني عشر عامًا على تسجيل «جدة التاريخية» ضمن قائمة التراث العالمي لدى اليونسكو؛ وهو حدث يعكس حجم الجهود التي تبذلها وزارة الثقافة لإحياء هذا الموقع العريق، وترميم ملامحه الأصيلة، في إطار التزام المملكة المستمر بحماية تراثها الثقافي وتعزيز هويتها الوطنية.
ويؤكد هذا الإدراج المكانة الاستثنائية التي تتمتع بها المنطقة التاريخية، بما تحمله من قيمة حضارية متجذرة، تظهر في نسيجها العمراني الفريد، وأسواقها التقليدية، وعمارتها المميزة ببيوت الرواشين الخشبية، إضافة إلى ارتباطها الوثيق بمسار الحج والتبادل التجاري والإنساني عبر البحر الأحمر. هذه العناصر مجتمعة تجعل من «جدة التاريخية» ملتقى ثقافيًا حيًا يحفظ ذاكرة المجتمع، ويروي قصص سكانه وزوّاره عبر أزقته ومساجده وبيوته وأسواقه القديمة.
وجاء اعتماد الموقع في قائمة اليونسكو نتيجة استيفائه ثلاثة من معايير القيمة العالمية الاستثنائية، إذ يجسّد تبادل القيم الإنسانية ومواد البناء وأساليب العمارة في منطقة البحر الأحمر، كما يعكس دوره التاريخي كمركز للتجارة والحج، وهو ما يعزّز ارتباطه العميق بالحج على المستويين العمراني والحضري.
وتشكّل الذكرى الثانية عشرة لهذا الإدراج مناسبة لتأكيد حضور «جدة التاريخية» عالميًا بوصفها موقع تراث حي ووجهة ثقافية وسياحية بارزة، ومركزًا نابضًا بالفنون والإبداع.
وتتوافق هذه الجهود مع مستهدفات رؤية المملكة 2030 التي تسعى إلى جعل الثقافة أسلوب حياة، ودعمها كمحرك اقتصادي يسهم في تعزيز مكانة المملكة كنموذج للتحول الحضري المستدام.
This June marks twelve years since the registration of "Historic Jeddah" on UNESCO's World Heritage List; an event that reflects the extent of the efforts made by the Ministry of Culture to revive this ancient site and restore its original features, as part of the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to protect its cultural heritage and enhance its national identity.
This listing confirms the exceptional status of the historic area, which carries deep-rooted civilizational value, evident in its unique urban fabric, traditional markets, and distinctive architecture characterized by wooden "rawashin" houses, in addition to its close connection to the pilgrimage route and commercial and human exchanges across the Red Sea. Together, these elements make "Historic Jeddah" a vibrant cultural meeting point that preserves the community's memory and tells the stories of its residents and visitors through its alleys, mosques, houses, and ancient markets.
The site's inclusion in the UNESCO list came as a result of meeting three criteria for outstanding universal value, as it embodies the exchange of human values, building materials, and architectural styles in the Red Sea region, and reflects its historical role as a center for trade and pilgrimage, which enhances its deep connection to pilgrimage on both urban and civilizational levels.
The twelfth anniversary of this listing serves as an occasion to reaffirm the global presence of "Historic Jeddah" as a living heritage site and a prominent cultural and tourist destination, as well as a vibrant center for arts and creativity.
These efforts align with the objectives of Vision 2030, which seeks to make culture a way of life and support it as an economic driver that contributes to enhancing the Kingdom's position as a model for sustainable urban transformation.
