تستضيف المملكة خلال الربع الأخير من العام الجاري أعمال «القمة العالمية الأولى للشعب المرجانية»؛ تأكيداً لريادتها الدولية في مجال حماية النظم البيئية البحرية، إضافةً إلى إبراز مكانتها المتقدمة في قيادة الجهود الدولية لمواجهة التحديات البيئية حول العالم.
وجاء إعلان استضافة المملكة للقمة خلال فعاليات «البيت السعودي» المنعقدة على هامش الاجتماع السنوي للمنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي في دافوس، وأعلنت عنه سفيرة خادم الحرمين الشريفين لدى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية الأميرة ريما بنت بندر بن سلطان.
وبهذه المناسبة، أكد وزير البيئة والمياه والزراعة رئيس مجلس إدارة المؤسسة العامة للمحافظة على الشعب المرجانية والسلاحف في البحر الأحمر المهندس عبدالرحمن بن عبدالمحسن الفضلي، أن استضافة المملكة للقمة العالمية الأولى للشعب المرجانية، تجسّد جهودها المحلية والدولية في حماية وحفظ النظم البيئية البحرية، عبر تبنّي أفضل البرامج والتقنيات المبتكرة، والممارسات العالمية؛ للإسهام في تحقيق مستهدفات التنمية المُستدامة، من خلال إعادة تأهيل الشُعب المرجانية، واستعادة التوازن البيئي، وتحسين جودة الحياة.
من جهته أوضح الرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة العامة للمحافظة على الشعب المرجانية والسلاحف في البحر الأحمر (شمس) الدكتور خالد الأصفهاني، أن أعمال القمة ستركز على ثلاثة محاور رئيسية، هي السياسات، والبحث العلمي، والتمويل، وتهدف القمة من خلال هذه المحاور، إلى طرح إطار عملي وموجّه للسياسات والتشريعات، يُمكّن من تحقيق الاستدامة المالية للشعب المرجانية والأنظمة البحرية المرتبطة بها، مع رسم مسار واضح للانتقال من الحوار إلى التنفيذ، عبر إبراز الشعب المرجانية كأصول اقتصادية ضمن إستراتيجيات الاقتصاد الأزرق، واستحداث آليات تمويل مستدامة وقابلة للتوسع، إضافةً إلى إشراك القادة وصنّاع ومتخذي القرار؛ لتطوير نماذج استثمارية قابلة للتنفيذ عبر السياسات والتشريعات، وإنشاء مسار تعبئة دولي منظم يقود إلى مخرجات ملموسة وقابلة للقياس.
يُذكر أن المملكة تتولى تنظيم هذه القمة العالمية، من خلال المؤسسة العامة للمحافظة على الشعاب المرجانية والسلاحف في البحر الأحمر (شمس)، بصفتها رئيساً للمبادرة الدولية للشعاب المرجانية (ICRI)، التي تضم في عضويتها (45) دولة؛ مما يعكس الثقة الدولية في دور المملكة القيادي في حماية الشعب المرجانية حول العالم.
The Kingdom will host the "First Global Coral Reef Summit" during the last quarter of this year; reaffirming its international leadership in the field of marine ecosystem protection, in addition to highlighting its advanced position in leading international efforts to address environmental challenges around the world.
The announcement of the Kingdom's hosting of the summit came during the activities of the "Saudi House" held on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and was announced by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan.
On this occasion, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadli, confirmed that the Kingdom's hosting of the First Global Coral Reef Summit embodies its local and international efforts in protecting and preserving marine ecosystems, through adopting the best programs and innovative technologies, and global practices; to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, by rehabilitating coral reefs, restoring ecological balance, and improving quality of life.
For his part, the CEO of the General Authority for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea (Shams), Dr. Khalid Al-Asfahani, explained that the summit's activities will focus on three main axes: policies, scientific research, and financing. Through these axes, the summit aims to propose a practical and policy-oriented framework that enables achieving financial sustainability for coral reefs and the associated marine systems, while outlining a clear path from dialogue to implementation, by highlighting coral reefs as economic assets within blue economy strategies, and creating sustainable and scalable financing mechanisms, in addition to engaging leaders and decision-makers; to develop executable investment models through policies and legislation, and to establish an organized international mobilization pathway that leads to tangible and measurable outcomes.
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom is organizing this global summit through the General Authority for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea (Shams), as it is the chair of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), which includes 45 member countries; reflecting the international confidence in the Kingdom's leading role in protecting coral reefs around the world.
