وزير الطاقة والمدير التنفيذي لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة يوقّعان مذكرة تفاهم

Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz met today in Riyadh with Inger Andersen, the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of climate action and joint efforts to achieve the goals and principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, as well as reviewing the Kingdom's initiatives and climate efforts, such as the "Saudi Green" and "Middle East Green" initiatives, and the ambitious programs related to utilizing renewable energy sources, managing and reducing emissions, and removing them through the application of the circular carbon economy approach and its technologies.

During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed for cooperation in the regional initiative to reduce emissions, aimed at supporting countries in the Middle East to achieve their climate ambitions by developing clean energy technologies and policies in line with the circular carbon economy approach to enhance their climate efforts.

The cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is crucial in the fields of sustainability and climate change. This memorandum stems from the shared goals of both parties in enhancing resource efficiency and reducing carbon emissions by adopting a comprehensive and balanced approach to achieve sustainable development.

Areas of cooperation include developing research and policy recommendations, building partnerships with global entities, participating in events related to climate action and the circular carbon economy, enhancing the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices, and developing policies to drive climate action through global and regional communication activities.
