Oil prices jumped by more than 4% during today’s (Monday) trading, with Brent crude surpassing the $108 per barrel mark, amid rising geopolitical tensions, following U.S. President Donald Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude futures for November rose by 4.08%, equivalent to $4.24, reaching $108.56 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for November increased by 4.16%, or $3.84, to $96.25 per barrel, at 11 PM.
Trump rejected the Iranian proposal at the end of last week and anticipated that U.S. negotiators would hold further talks during the current week.
The gains in oil prices coincided with Ukraine's continued targeting of energy infrastructure in Russia, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces had targeted oil facilities in the Krasnodar region of western Russia.
