The British pound stabilized during today's (Friday) trading near its lowest levels against the dollar since June 29, heading towards a weekly loss of about 1.2%, marking its largest weekly decline since May.
Currency analyst at "ING" Francesco Pesole explained that the pound may face pressures in the coming months, ruling out a sharp increase in interest rates by the Bank of England, according to Western media outlets.
In contrast, the dollar is on track to achieve strong weekly gains, supported by rising energy prices and increasing bets on a rise in U.S. interest rates.
The dollar index, which measures the performance of the U.S. currency against a basket of six major currencies, fell by 0.17% to 101.12 points.
The euro against the dollar was recorded at 1.1389 dollars, up 0.08%, while the pound reached 1.3236 dollars, rising 0.13%. The dollar fell against the yen by 0.38% to 158.26 yen, while it rose against the Swiss franc by 0.16% to 0.8291 franc.
