Oil prices deepened their losses during today's (Monday) trading, falling by more than 3%, as markets await the outcomes of diplomatic moves aimed at easing the conflict between the United States and Iran, coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
Market analyst at "KCM Trade" Tim Waterer said: "It seems that part of the risk premium has started to fade from oil prices, amid hopes for a possible diplomatic path to de-escalate the U.S.-Iranian conflict this week," according to Western media outlets.
Hopes for easing tensions were bolstered after U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his openness to meeting with Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian in New York, while Tehran conveyed its conditions to intermediaries in preparation for returning to negotiations aimed at ending the conflict with Washington.
In oil markets, futures contracts for the two benchmark crudes fell, with Brent crude for November delivery dropping by 3.25%, equivalent to $3.37, to reach $100.50 per barrel.
Similarly, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for October delivery declined by 3.15%, down $3.16, settling at $97.14 per barrel.
