أفادت صحيفة «فايننشال تايمز» بأن التوصل إلى اتفاق تجارة حرة بين بريطانيا ودول الخليج بات قريباً، بعد مفاوضات استمرت منذ عام 2022.
اتفاق مبدئي
وذكرت الصحيفة أن الجانبين قد يعلنان خلال أيام التوصل إلى اتفاق مبدئي، في وقت يُتوقّع فيه وصول الأمين العام لمجلس التعاون الخليجي جاسم البديوي إلى لندن هذا الأسبوع لاستكمال المشاورات النهائية.
وأكد مسؤول بريطاني أن المفاوضات وصلت إلى مرحلة متقدمة، بينما أوضحت الحكومة البريطانية أن الاتفاق يمثّل أولوية استراتيجية لتعزيز العلاقات الاقتصادية مع منطقة الخليج.
حجم التبادل التجاري
وبحسب التقديرات الحكومية البريطانية، يمكن للاتفاق أن يضيف ما بين 1.6 مليار إلى 3.1 مليار جنيه إسترليني سنوياً إلى الاقتصاد البريطاني.
ويبلغ حجم التبادل التجاري الحالي بين بريطانيا ودول مجلس التعاون أكثر من 53 مليار دولار سنوياً.
وكان مجلس التعاون الخليجي قد وقع اتفاقيات تجارة حرة مع باكستان وكوريا الجنوبية فيما يجري مفاوضات مع دول عدة لتوقيع اتفاقيات مماثلة منها ماليزيا وتركيا والهند.
The Financial Times reported that a free trade agreement between the UK and Gulf countries is nearing completion, following negotiations that have been ongoing since 2022.
Preliminary Agreement
The newspaper mentioned that both sides may announce a preliminary agreement within days, as the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, is expected to arrive in London this week to finalize consultations.
A British official confirmed that the negotiations have reached an advanced stage, while the UK government stated that the agreement represents a strategic priority to enhance economic relations with the Gulf region.
Trade Volume
According to British government estimates, the agreement could add between £1.6 billion to £3.1 billion annually to the British economy.
The current trade volume between the UK and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries exceeds $53 billion annually.
The Gulf Cooperation Council has signed free trade agreements with Pakistan and South Korea, and is currently negotiating with several countries to sign similar agreements, including Malaysia, Turkey, and India.
