The Chinese Ministry of Commerce confirmed today (Saturday) that Beijing is ready to expedite the inspection and approval process for rare earth metal exports to European Union companies, and it will issue its judgment on its trade investigation into brandy imports from the bloc by July 5.

According to a statement on the Chinese Ministry of Commerce's website, consultations on price commitments between China and the EU regarding Chinese-made electric vehicles exported to the bloc have entered the final stage, but efforts are still needed from both sides.

The statement clarified that these issues were discussed between Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis in Paris last Tuesday.

These comments represent progress on issues that have strained China's relationship with the EU over the past year.

China's decision in April to suspend exports of a wide range of rare earth metals and related magnets has disrupted the supply chains of automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, and military contracting companies worldwide.

The ministry stated, "China attaches great importance to the concerns of the EU and is ready to open a green channel for eligible requests to expedite the approval process."

The statement mentioned that Minister Wang expressed during the meeting "his hope that the EU would meet us halfway and take effective measures to facilitate, protect, and promote compliant trade in high-tech products to China."

China's anti-dumping measures, which imposed tariffs of up to 39% on brandy imports from Europe, with French cognac bearing the brunt, have also strained relations between Paris and Beijing.
