أعلن رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو، اليوم (الأربعاء)، موافقته على أكبر صفقة تصدير غاز طبيعي في تاريخ إسرائيل، تهدف إلى توريد الغاز إلى مصر بقيمة تصل إلى 35 مليار دولار.
صفقة مليارية
وقال نتنياهو في بيان تلفزيوني: «لقد وافقت اليوم على أكبر صفقة غاز في تاريخ إسرائيل، بقيمة 112 مليار شيكل (35 مليار دولار)، هذه الصفقة مع شركة شيفرون الأمريكية وشركاء إسرائيليين، ستورد الغاز الطبيعي إلى مصر».
وأضاف أن الصفقة، التي كانت متعثرة بسبب بعض القضايا العالقة، ستساهم في تعزيز الاستقرار الإقليمي.
حقل ليفياثان يغطي الطلب
وبحسب وكالة «رويترز»، تم توقيع اتفاق التصدير في أغسطس الماضي، ويغطي توريد غاز من حقل ليفياثان البحري الإسرائيلي، أحد أكبر الحقول في المنطقة.
ومن المتوقع أن تساعد هذه الصفقة في تخفيف أزمة الطاقة الحادة في مصر، التي أنفقت مليارات الدولارات على استيراد الغاز الطبيعي المسال منذ أن انخفض إنتاجها المحلي عن الطلب.
وبدأ إنتاج الغاز في مصر في الانخفاض منذ 2022، فيما تعتمد الصفقة على توسعة إنتاج حقل ليفياثان، الذي تديره شركة شيفرون بالشراكة مع شركات إسرائيلية، لضمان تدفق الغاز بشكل مستدام.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today (Wednesday) his approval of the largest natural gas export deal in Israel's history, aimed at supplying gas to Egypt worth up to $35 billion.
Billion-Dollar Deal
Netanyahu said in a televised statement: "I have approved today the largest gas deal in Israel's history, worth 112 billion shekels ($35 billion). This deal with the American company Chevron and Israeli partners will supply natural gas to Egypt."
He added that the deal, which had been stalled due to some outstanding issues, will contribute to enhancing regional stability.
Leviathan Field Meets Demand
According to Reuters, the export agreement was signed last August and covers the supply of gas from the Israeli offshore Leviathan field, one of the largest fields in the region.
This deal is expected to help alleviate the severe energy crisis in Egypt, which has spent billions of dollars on importing liquefied natural gas since its domestic production fell short of demand.
Gas production in Egypt has been declining since 2022, while the deal relies on expanding production from the Leviathan field, which is operated by Chevron in partnership with Israeli companies, to ensure a sustainable flow of gas.
