أعلنت كندا، اليوم (الجمعة)، نيتها رفع العديد من الرسوم الجمركية التصعيدية المفروضة على السلع الأمريكية، في خطوة تهدف إلى إظهار حسن النية وإعادة إحياء المحادثات التجارية المتوقفة مع الولايات المتحدة.
وبحسب وكالة «رويترز»، ستبقى الرسوم على السيارات والصلب والألمنيوم الأمريكية قائمة في الوقت الحالي. ومن المقرر أن يعقد رئيس الوزراء الكندي، مارك كارني، مؤتمراً صحفياً للإعلان عن هذه الخطوة.
وأسهم الإعلان في ارتفاع قيمة الدولار الكندي بنسبة 0.5%، إذ سجل 1.3837 دولار كندي مقابل الدولار الأمريكي بحلول الساعة 11:05 صباحاً، أي ما يعادل 72.27 سنت أمريكي.
تأتي الخطوة في سياق المحادثات المستمرة منذ أشهر بين كندا والولايات المتحدة لتطوير علاقة اقتصادية وأمنية جديدة، لكن الطرفين لم يتوصلا بعد إلى اتفاق نهائي.
وكان كارني قد أجرى محادثة هاتفية مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أمس (الخميس)، وهي الأولى منذ يونيو، ووصفتها الحكومة الكندية بأنها «محادثة بناءة».
وتعد هذه الخطوة محاولة لتخفيف التوترات التجارية بين البلدين، اللذين تربطهما شراكة اقتصادية هي الأكبر من نوعها عالمياً، إذ يتبادلان سلعاً وخدمات بقيمة 2.5 مليار دولار يومياً.
Canada announced today (Friday) its intention to lift many of the retaliatory tariffs imposed on American goods, in a move aimed at demonstrating goodwill and reviving stalled trade talks with the United States.
According to Reuters, tariffs on American cars, steel, and aluminum will remain in place for the time being. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to hold a press conference to announce this step.
The announcement contributed to a 0.5% increase in the value of the Canadian dollar, which reached 1.3837 Canadian dollars per American dollar by 11:05 AM, equivalent to 72.27 cents American.
This step comes in the context of ongoing talks between Canada and the United States for developing a new economic and security relationship, but the two sides have not yet reached a final agreement.
Carney had a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday (Thursday), the first since June, which the Canadian government described as a "constructive conversation."
This move is an attempt to ease trade tensions between the two countries, which share the largest economic partnership of its kind in the world, exchanging goods and services worth $2.5 billion daily.
