The money supply in Egypt "N2" increased by 17.5% year-on-year during July 2026, reaching approximately 15.49 trillion pounds, compared to 13.18 trillion pounds in the same month of the previous year, with an increase of about 2.31 trillion pounds over the year.
15.5 trillion pounds
Data from the Central Bank of Egypt showed a continued growth in the available liquidity in the economy, coinciding with an increase in bank deposits and circulating cash.
"N2" is one of the key indicators for measuring the money supply, including cash in circulation outside the banking system, as well as current deposits, time deposits, and savings deposits in local currency.
Liquidity Growth
The movement of the money supply reflects the amount of liquidity available to individuals, companies, and the banking sector, while central banks monitor this indicator alongside inflation, interest rates, and credit growth to assess economic trends and monetary policy.
The increase in the money supply in July followed a faster growth rate in May, when it reached approximately 15.33 trillion pounds, compared to 12.82 trillion pounds in May 2025, recording an annual increase of 19.6%.
Increase of 160 billion
Comparing May and July 2026, the money supply rose by about 160 billion pounds, despite a decline in the annual growth rate from 19.6% in May to 17.5% in July.
The growth of liquidity is significant for monetary policy, as it can affect levels of spending and demand for goods and services, while its final impact depends on several factors, including the growth rate of the economy, the speed of money circulation, and trends in inflation and credit.
Monitoring Inflation
The July data comes at a time when the Central Bank of Egypt continues to manage liquidity levels in the market, while monitoring developments in inflation, exchange rates, credit, and international reserves, as part of its policy aimed at supporting price stability and macroeconomic stability.
An increase in the money supply does not necessarily mean an automatic rise in prices; the impact of increased liquidity is related to how its growth aligns with the growth of GDP and the level of demand, alongside prevailing monetary and financial conditions.
The "N2" data remains an important indicator of liquidity trends in the Egyptian economy, as investors and analysts monitor its developments alongside inflation, interest rates, credit, and economic growth to assess the economic trajectory in the coming period.
