The General Company for Grain Trade in the Iraqi Ministry of Trade announced the end of the wheat marketing season for the year 2025 in Iraq.
Director General of the company, Haidar Noor Al-Karawi, stated today: "The quantity received of wheat until yesterday, July 19, 2025, which is the last day of the marketing season, reached 5.11 million tons."
He added: "The remaining quantities of wheat from last year amount to about 1.4 million tons, bringing the total available currently to around 6.5 million tons."
He explained that this quantity represents a sufficient strategic stock to cover local needs for 16 months, including the distribution of the ration card, in addition to the reserve.
He pointed out that "the currently tense regional situation does not allow for the export of wheat, despite the large surplus."
Regarding storage capacity, Al-Karawi confirmed that all quantities currently stored are in the company's warehouses in the provinces, and part of it has begun to be moved to the mills in preparation for grinding before the rainy season.
He clarified that the year 2025 is considered one of the most successful seasons, as it is free from the fire incidents that were recorded in previous seasons during the harvest in the fields. He noted that the achieved results came thanks to the farmers' determination to cultivate, especially relying on modern irrigation systems, despite the climatic challenges.
