The Indian film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which translates to "The Brave-Hearted Will Take the Bride Away," has been showing daily for 30 years in a cinema in Mumbai, setting a record as the longest-running film in the history of Indian cinema.
Starting tomorrow (Monday), the film, commonly known as DDLJ, will achieve an unprecedented milestone by reaching its thirtieth year of continuous screening at the famous Maratha Mandir theater in Mumbai, the economic capital of India.
The film's premiere took place on October 20, 1995, and since then it has maintained its daily screenings without interruption.
Manoj Desai, the manager of Maratha Mandir cinema, stated in media interviews that the theater attracts students and young couples during the weekdays, while the audience on Sundays reaches around 500 people, noting that the audience's engagement remains as vibrant as ever, despite the many years since the film's premiere.
The film addresses the clash of values between two generations, highlighting the contrast between the openness of a young Indian couple living abroad and the conservative beliefs of their parents, and it played a pivotal role in launching actor Shah Rukh Khan to stardom in Indian cinema.
