أعلن قائد فريق الخلود مدافع منتخب نيجيريا ويليام تروست إيكونغ اعتزاله اللعب الدولي مع منتخب بلاده، وذلك قبل مشاركة المنتخب في بطولة أمم أفريقيا المقررة في يناير القادم في المغرب.
وقال إيكونغ، البالغ 32 عاماً، عبر حسابه على منصة «إكس»: «مُكرّم وممتن. سأبقى نسراً خارقاً للأبد، لقد كان اللعب لنيجيريا أعظم شرف في حياتي. قد تنتهي رحلتي هنا، لكن دعمي لن ينقطع أبداً إلى الفصل التالي».
وخاض إيكونغ مع المنتخب منذ 2015 ما مجموعه 83 مباراة، سجل خلالها 8 أهداف، ليكون متاحاً الآن لفريقه الخلود خلال فترة التوقف الدولي.
The captain of the Al-Khulood team and Nigeria national team defender, William Troost-Ekong, announced his retirement from international play with his national team, just before the team’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for next January in Morocco.
Ekong, who is 32 years old, said via his account on the "X" platform: "Honored and grateful. I will remain an eagle forever; playing for Nigeria has been the greatest honor of my life. My journey may end here, but my support will never cease for the next chapter."
Since 2015, Ekong has played a total of 83 matches with the national team, scoring 8 goals, and he is now available for his team Al-Khulood during the international break.
