أطلقت الممثلة والكاتبة الأسترالية كلير ماكان حملة تبرعات عبر الإنترنت لجمع 300 ألف دولار أسترالي (نحو 195 ألف دولار أمريكي) خلال مهلة لا تتجاوز سبعة أيام، لتجميد جسد ابنها البالغ من العمر 13 عاماً بعد انتحاره نتيجة تعرضه لتنمّر متواصل في مدرسته الحكومية.
وكشفت ماكان، المقيمة في ولاية نيو ساوث ويلز، أن ابنها أتريو ماكان وضع حدًا لحياته في 23 مايو الجاري، بعد أن عانى طويلاً من تنمر وصفته بـ«الوحشي» على يد زملائه في المدرسة.
وكتبت عبر منصة GoFundMe: «منذ دخوله المرحلة الثانوية، بدأ مسلسل القسوة... نداءاتي المتكررة للإدارة وللوزارة لم تلقَ أي استجابة. والآن، طفلي الجميل لم يعد موجوداً».
الحملة التي أطلقتها الأم تحت عنوان «فرصة ثانية لابني»، تهدف إلى نقل جسد أتريو بسرعة إلى منشأة متخصصة في الحفظ بالتبريد، وهي تقنية علمية تقوم على تجميد الأجساد بعد الوفاة على أمل أن يتم إحياؤها مستقبلاً بتطور الطب.
وقالت الأم، في كلمات ملؤها الرجاء: «لدينا فرصة واحدة فقط. يجب أن يتم تجميد جسده خلال سبعة أيام، وإلا فلن تعود هناك أي إمكانية لاستعادته يومًا ما. هذا عن الأمل، عن العدالة، عن عدم ترك قصته تنتهي بالصمت».
وجمعت الفنانة الأسترالية من الحملة حتى اليوم 9,529 دولار تقريباً، ما يعني أن فرصة تحقيق ما تتمنى تكاد تكون معدومة إذا استمرت بهذا النحو البطيء.
روت كلير ماكان أن فكرة الحفظ بالتبريد لم تكن وليدة الأزمة، بل ناقشتها مع ابنها قبل أعوام، وتشاركا الحلم في أن يبقيا معًا إلى الأبد عبر هذه الطريقة غير التقليدية.
وقالت: «كنا دائمًا نقول إننا سنفعل ذلك سويًّا... أن لا نفترق أبدًا. هو يستحق أن يحيا مجددًا، ليعيش الحياة التي حُرم منها».
والحفظ بالتبريد أو «التحنيط بالتجميد» إجراء علمي مثير للجدل، يتم فيه تجميد جسد الإنسان بعد الوفاة على أمل إحيائه مستقبلًا باستخدام تقنيات طبية متقدمة قد تُطوَّر لاحقًا. وتُجرى هذه العملية عادة في منشآت خاصة خارج أستراليا، وتتطلب ترتيبات لوجستية وقانونية وطبية معقدة ومكلفة.
The Australian actress and writer Claire McCann launched an online fundraising campaign to raise AUD 300,000 (about USD 195,000) within a week to freeze the body of her 13-year-old son after he committed suicide due to ongoing bullying at his public school.
McCann, who resides in New South Wales, revealed that her son Atreyu McCann took his own life on May 23, after suffering for a long time from what she described as "brutal" bullying by his schoolmates.
She wrote on the GoFundMe platform: "Since he entered high school, the cruelty began... My repeated pleas to the administration and the ministry went unanswered. And now, my beautiful child is gone."
The campaign launched by the mother, titled "A Second Chance for My Son," aims to quickly transfer Atreyu's body to a specialized facility for cryopreservation, a scientific technique that involves freezing bodies after death in the hope that they can be revived in the future with advancements in medicine.
The mother said, in words filled with hope: "We only have one chance. His body must be frozen within seven days, or there will be no possibility of bringing him back one day. This is about hope, about justice, about not letting his story end in silence."
The Australian artist has raised approximately AUD 9,529 from the campaign so far, which means that the chance of achieving her goal is nearly nonexistent if it continues at this slow pace.
Claire McCann recounted that the idea of cryopreservation was not born out of crisis; rather, she discussed it with her son years ago, and they shared the dream of staying together forever through this unconventional method.
She said: "We always said we would do this together... that we would never be apart. He deserves to live again, to experience the life he was deprived of."
Cryopreservation, or "freezing preservation," is a controversial scientific procedure in which a human body is frozen after death in the hope of reviving it in the future using advanced medical technologies that may be developed later. This process is usually carried out in specialized facilities outside Australia and requires complex and costly logistical, legal, and medical arrangements.
