The suffering of vehicle drivers in the Samta governorate in the Jazan region continues due to the dilapidated roads and the spread of potholes and cracks in several internal neighborhoods, amid calls for repaving and rehabilitating the damaged roads, which have turned into a source of daily suffering for residents, in addition to distorting the urban landscape in the governorate.
Residents explained to “Okaz” that most of the damaged roads within the neighborhoods have not seen repaving work for a long time, making travel through them a tiring matter, in light of the spread of potholes and wear that cause damage to vehicles and frequent breakdowns, forcing their owners to continuously visit repair shops to fix the damages resulting from the poor condition of the roads.
Residents called on the relevant authorities, including the municipality, to conduct field visits to the neighborhood roads, assess the damaged sites, and work on repairing the potholes and repaving according to appropriate specifications, in addition to establishing a clear mechanism to monitor the condition of the roads after maintenance work is completed, and to oversee the companies executing the service projects, which may cause damage to the roads if the sites are not restored to their previous condition after completion.
Improving the Urban Landscape
Anwar Mansour Muslih Mubarak, a resident of Samta, confirmed that addressing the damaged roads will contribute to enhancing traffic safety and improving the urban landscape, pointing out that well-prepared and safe roads are a fundamental demand for residents who suffer from the spread of potholes in the internal streets, which have become a danger to their vehicles.
For his part, Mohammed Al-Shaabi condemned the state of the roads in the center of Samta, considering that they are not suitable for a large governorate with a dense population, which includes many service facilities and is frequented daily by residents from nearby centers and villages. He called for the urgent scraping of the dilapidated asphalt layers and the repaving of the damaged neighborhoods, in line with the volume of traffic and the needs of the residents.
In turn, Hassan Mukhli expressed his astonishment at the spread of potholes and cracks in the neighborhood roads and internal streets, pointing out that the deterioration of their condition has become clear to residents, amid their ongoing suffering from the damages inflicted on their vehicles, especially the wheels and tires, in addition to the unsuitable appearance of the roads within the governorate.
The residents of Samta are awaiting urgent intervention to address this long-standing problem, through repaving the dilapidated streets and rehabilitating the internal roads, and monitoring the quality of service project implementations, which would limit the damages suffered by vehicles, enhance traffic safety, and improve the urban landscape in the governorate.
