When a leader adopts a sector, they do not only look at its size today, but also at what it can contribute to the economy and cities in the years to come. Here, the experience of facility management in the Kingdom deserves to be viewed from a different perspective!
Today, the size of the facility management market exceeds 50 billion dollars, while the need for more efficient asset and service management is expanding, alongside the growth of cities and their assets, and the upcoming events, foremost among them Expo Riyadh 2030 and the World Cup 2034!
This can be seen in the experience of the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Majid Al-Hoqail, with this sector; the issue goes beyond market growth to redefining its role in the urban system. Among the most prominent features of this transformation is what was presented during the Third International Conference and Exhibition for Facility Management 2026: the shift from operating the facility to managing the asset's value throughout its life cycle, from fixing faults to predicting needs, and from measuring activity to measuring impact!
Data, artificial intelligence, and digital twins open up a new space for assessing asset performance, anticipating needs, and enhancing decision quality. However, technology alone does not create a competitive sector; there is a need for a clear regulatory environment, effective partnerships, and a market that allows national companies to grow, the private sector to innovate and invest, and Saudi talents to lead in engineering, technology, asset management, and data analysis!
Here, the story of facility management becomes broader than a single sector; it is an example of the role of a leader in envisioning potential before its complete picture emerges, and then building the environment that helps it grow. How many activities carry a greater opportunity than their current size? And how many sectors could become a more mature industry in ten years if they find the right regulation, investment, technology, and competencies?!
In short, economic transformation is not created solely by what we possess today, but by what we discover and build from the opportunities of tomorrow!
