Football was created for enjoyment, not for hatred. It is a game at peace with itself, and we should be at peace with it, as its slogan says. So do not deprive yourself—dear athlete—of loving the beauty of this ball, and set aside those who misunderstand it, even though its language is one and understood by all the inhabitants of our planet.
Here I pause, and from here I launch; to talk to you about the beauty I saw in victory, and to give you the chance to soar with me to enjoy that beauty, in which I found the elegant language of the writer Fahd Aafat and much of the composure of my friend Mohammed Al-Dwaish.
A half I wished would never end, in which victory presented a tale of time, traditions, and customs known to those who know victory.
What did they say between the halves? And where did they disappear after the end of the second half? Two questions whose answers I found in deleted tweets and an early sleep, bringing back to us a story whose hero has died, yet we still remember it and remind others of it.
The text did not escape as much as something I wanted to express my admiration for the epic of victory in the Eastern Province slipped away from me, for it contained creativity that made me ask and wonder: Who is the hero of this transformation?
A second half in which Al-Ettifaq lost all the paths leading to victory's goal, but—like us—Al-Ettifaq was amazed, abandoned its mission, and enjoyed with us a game of football that only the greats play in such a manner.
It is not a shame for the loser to enjoy their loss as long as it features lavish performance and transformations that may take time until time grants us something similar.
I tried to write about victory as my sincerity, love, and appreciation for the simple people who chose victory as their ally dictated to me, and I found my phrases merging with a text that can only be written for victory, in victory, and in the presence of victory.
Mané alone was Picasso that night, painting and indulging in his artistry.
And in the stands, even though the match was on Al-Ettifaq's ground, the image embodied a reality, telling the story that every ground on which victory plays becomes its own, leaving the rest to that stranger who lost his way in the city.
For the simple ones only, Albert Camus says: "Not long ago, it was the bad actions that required justification; today, it is the good actions that require that too. Oh, the misery of this world!"
• A Flash:
We apologize in silence for the magnitude of the wounds.
And we smile at sadness if we die of pain.
What good is it to express if we want to express?
As long as some expressions lead to regret.
