Sadness fills social media around the world following the passing of American judge Frank Caprio, a figure known for his humanistic character, emotional depth, and bias towards the weak and oppressed in his courtroom in a small town called Providence in the state of Rhode Island. Millions have followed the trial sessions presided over by this compassionate judge for impoverished cases brought before him, and we witnessed how he handled them with a spirit of the law, far removed from severity and frowning. We saw trial sessions where he imparted lessons in humanity in his court to immigrants, foreign students, the elderly, or defendants from diverse cultures and religions. All these factors were reasons for him to empathize with them in their trials, reducing the financial penalties imposed on them to very symbolic amounts due to the extreme poverty faced by those standing before him. In some of those cases, we found him involving the children of the defendants in the nature of the judgments issued against their parents in video clips from those trials, which garnered billions of views worldwide for the lessons of forgiveness, love, and support for these poor and marginalized individuals from various categories and ages in society, who would face greater problems if the law were applied to them strictly. However, this iconic judge had his own unique way, filled with compassion and humanity, towards those who stood before him in his courtroom. I believe his approach presented a great face and personality that we will remember fondly, transcending cultural, political, and religious differences. This character and her human and emotional behavior is what the world needs to spread concepts of justice imbued with values and compassion, away from frowning and unjust violence in courtrooms worldwide. Such behavior can foster a culture of compliance with the law among people when they witness such practices from Judge Frank Caprio. I remember how he interacted with a 95-year-old defendant, whose offense was driving his car at high speed in a school zone. During the back-and-forth with Judge Caprio, it was discovered that the reason for the defendant's speeding was that he was taking his disabled son to the hospital every week due to a blood disease affecting his 67-year-old son. Numerous humanitarian cases were handled by this compassionate judge with mercy and love, showing bias towards them in scenes that were mostly human and comedic in the way he interacted with those standing before him. In some cases, their English was weak, and we saw their children translating for them in Judge Frank Caprio's courtroom.
The compassionate Judge Caprio passed away after a tough and violent battle with his illness, and how he asked his loved ones around the world to pray for him in his journey with this disease. His condition had improved recently, which he attributed to the prayers of his supporters worldwide. In this age of information revolution and what we see on social media, borders have shrunk, and we have become part of this universe, close and united in love for such cases and human figures that have a significant impact on the world regarding social justice, away from religious and ethnic differences. In the courtroom of Judge Frank Caprio, we stand before a school and university in simplicity and love from a judge filled with emotions, appreciating the circumstances of the simple people standing before him.
May his soul rest in peace, this universal human who brought joy to millions around the world through his innovative, humane, and ethical approach to dealing with lawbreakers, far removed from stereotypes against defendants based on their color, religion, or social background.
