The Israeli nuclear station "Dimona" is considered the center of Zionist military nuclear activity and the facility that enabled Israel to possess a stockpile of nuclear bombs, amounting to about two hundred nuclear warheads, directed - indeed - at the main Arab population centers in the East and West of the Arab world. The Israeli nuclear technician "Mordechai Vanunu," among others, exposed the horrific activities taking place inside this station and confirmed that Israel was manufacturing nuclear bombs to intimidate its opponents.
This station is located in the city of "Dimona," north of the Negev Desert, approximately 70 kilometers from the city of "Beersheba." It is believed to have been established near some uranium mines located in the Negev Desert. It houses a famous reactor, of French design, with a thermal capacity of 26 megawatts. It is a heavy water reactor that uses regular or low-enriched uranium as fuel and heavy water as a coolant and moderator. Israel obtained it under an agreement with France, signed in 1957.
Since its establishment, it has been dedicated to the production of nuclear weapons and has been placed (under complete secrecy) under the supervision of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, which began operating that reactor starting in early 1964. This reactor, which Israel refuses to subject to any international oversight or inspection, has remained a secret, known only to a few leaders in Israel and America.
Its existence was only discovered in 1960. However, the Prime Minister of Israel at that time, David Ben-Gurion, denied the existence of a nuclear reactor in Dimona, claiming that what was thought to be a nuclear reactor was merely a "textile factory." Ben-Gurion himself later (on 21/12/1960) admitted that a nuclear reactor was being built in Dimona, with assistance from France, but he stated that this reactor was established solely for "peaceful purposes"!
****
The military significance of the Dimona reactor lies in its ability to produce plutonium in quantities sufficient to manufacture nuclear bombs, and in the fact that it is not subject to any foreign oversight or accountability. This importance and danger are further supported by Israel's possession of a plutonium extraction facility from spent reactor fuel and its ability to produce "heavy water" locally. It has also been confirmed that Israel now possesses a uranium enrichment facility within this Dimona station.
It has been nearly eight decades since the establishment and operation of the Dimona reactor. Therefore, this reactor appears to be aging, and "radiation" is leaking from it, threatening the safety of the entire Negev region and even surrounding countries near Palestine. Consequently, the Dimona reactor poses a significant environmental hazard, in addition to providing Israel with the materials necessary to produce more nuclear bombs aimed at its neighbors, Arabs and Muslims.
****
Israel possesses sufficient means to carry and launch these nuclear warheads against targets... extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Arabian Gulf in the east. It has medium and long-range (ground-to-ground) missiles, as well as aircraft and submarines prepared to carry and launch nuclear weapons. Israel uses (and benefits from) this nuclear weaponry around the clock.
It "runs rampant" in the region, doing as it pleases, committing one crime after another, and no one can "deter" it from most neighbors; because it possesses (alone) a powerful nuclear deterrent ready for actual use, which it uses to threaten, extort, and terrorize opponents of its aggressive Zionist policies, and to pressure them with its card to pass its colonial-Zionist policies in the region. Those who say that "Israel will not use (and has not used) its nuclear weapon except when its existence is threatened" do not understand the theory of nuclear deterrence and its implications, nor are they unfortunately familiar with the basics of international relations, especially its conflictual aspect.
****
Israel (and its supporters) have granted themselves the right to monopolize nuclear weapons in the region, to threaten with its possession, and to deter opponents of its policies from confronting it. Their leaders are alarmingly exaggerating (with unprecedented audacity) any nuclear possibility in the region... at a time when their arsenals are filled with a massive stockpile of all weapons of mass destruction, which they use to threaten, terrorize, and extort the region. It is surprising that some of those targeted (by this Israeli deterrent) contribute to promoting the principle of Israel's monopoly on nuclear weapons... by downplaying the Israeli nuclear threat, ignoring this danger, and other manifestations of bias, ignorance, and self-betrayal.
Returning to "Dimona," we find that: the Israeli army announced (in November 2007) a state of "maximum alert" in the vicinity of this reactor, during which "Patriot" missile batteries were prepared around the reactor for its protection. Israeli military sources stated: "This state came in response to the dramatic developments that the region has recently witnessed." One Israeli official said that there is concern about a Syrian retaliatory operation following the airstrike that targeted a Syrian reactor in the Deir ez-Zor area in September 2007. He ruled out that the attack would be Iranian or an act of international terrorism!
****
All of this confirms the danger of "Dimona"... as it is the "source" that has supplied Israel - and continues to supply it - with the plutonium and uranium necessary to manufacture nuclear bombs that threaten and terrorize the region, extorting it and ensuring (at least for a time) the continuation of state terrorism and its known criminal policies. This reactor also poses a grave danger to the surrounding environment due to its aging and the possibility of it being targeted in attacks. Among the most famous leaks about this reactor are the testimonies of the Israeli nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu, who revealed the manufacturing of nuclear weapons in Dimona. We may have a subsequent discussion about his testimony. Will the "international community" and the International Atomic Energy Agency continue to ignore this deadly threat because it primarily affects Arabs?!
