A regular taco meal has turned into a case before the U.S. courts, after a woman from Texas claimed she found a cow's tooth in her meal while eating, an incident that led her to sue a famous restaurant chain and demand compensation of up to $250,000.
The details of the incident date back to last June, when Noemi Castillo purchased a beef taco from one of the restaurant's branches in Austin, Texas. While eating, she was surprised to find a hard object in her meal, initially thinking it was a piece of bone, before later discovering it was a cow's tooth that she said she almost swallowed.
The woman filed a lawsuit in Travis County Court, accusing the restaurant's operator of negligence in food inspection and preparation procedures, and failing to take measures to prevent foreign objects from reaching customers' meals.
The plaintiff demanded compensation of $250,000, which includes what she said were damages she suffered, in addition to medical expenses and other losses related to the incident.
For its part, the restaurant chain acknowledged, after reviewing the complaint, that the object found in the meal was indeed a cow's tooth. They explained that the meat used in the barbacoa dish is prepared from the cheeks of cows supplied to the restaurant, noting that such incidents can occur during meat processing, but they remain rare.
